... you are now "outside the box"!

Free of restrictions...

Hmm... free software?  Just a moment to clarify what that means.  Various sites talk about software which is "Free as in Beer" and "Free as in Speech" which is not how I prefer to explain it.  To clarify...

Software can be free of cost (Beer in the above example), the simplest example being freeware (you can have it without paying but you are not free to do as you please with it).
or
Software can be free of restriction (Speech in the above example, do practically everything but claim it as your own or incorporate it into non-free software).  These freedoms are that you can...
  • Run the program, for any purpose.
  • Study how the program works, and adapt it to your needs.
  • Redistribute copies.
  • Improve the program, and release your improvements to the public.

But the "expert in the shop" told me...

Which...? ..."all you need to" or "all he wants you to" know.  You could even end up with Windows Vista but that's "ok" if you read the license and agree to it.  Hands up who's actually fully read a License agreement?

And I'm saying...

What are you waiting for?  Now you know what it is. Go get it!
