CNC Router - The Build Continues
(2/12/2005)

Over the last week, I have attempted to adjust the gantry to run smooth and true on the 1" pipe rails.  However, the other night, several of the adjusment blocks that hold setscrews to position the rails stripped out.  Even with threaded insert nuts, the MDF blocks wouldn't hold up.

The solution, bring out the foundry and make aluminim blocks.  They didn't turn out great, kind of a rushed casting job.  They will get the job done, though, since even with the shrinks and defects, they're as thick or thicker than the MDF blocks were.  Now I just have to drill and tap the setscrew and mounting holes...

Gantry mounted on the rails.  It rolled smooth, but had some slop at points.
Foam adjustment blocks before they're covered in sand.  I went mud-free for these.

The good side of the blocks.  These ought to hold!
Extra aluminum gets poured into the homemade ingot mold.  They look solid and cold, don't they....Wrong!
