The Advertiser, February 2004,
"Teachers lacking computer skills"
Teacher lacking computer skills is an interesting issue that Dr. Siva got from The Advertisers dated 24 February 2004. I think that computer skills are really essential for the teachers these days, especially in the developed countries, specifically like Australia. By investing on building teachers expertise in computers, their academic would be strengthened via world wide web. They will be able to catch up with the global changes. Then this knowledge will be passed to the students. Therefore, strengthening teachers computer expertise will contribute to improving teaching and learning standard.
Marshall, S., Taylor, T. & Yu, X. (undated). Closing the Digital Divide: Transforming Regional Economies and Communities with Information Technologies. London: PRAEGER
This is an interessting reading. In the passage I have found the usefulness of ICT that can used as a tool for connecting individuals and groups within the commmunities that are difficult in terms of location and condition. These include
- Reconnecting people with people and overcoming some of the sense of isolation and disconnection that can exist within the communities themselves.
- Reconnecting people with themselves in the sense of building up self-confidence and self-esteem.
Reconnecting people with economic opportunity: having share in the future.
- Reconnecting people with educational opportunity, providing pathways to future employment for those who are outsidethe formal educationsystem.
- Reconnectingpeople with their locality and culture, helping people to develop and access relevant informationand give voice to their identity.
Furthermore,
In brief, I opine that ICT can narrow the society gap because either city or hard-to-reach communities can access the same information. And ICT can create more better jobs for people through economic development.
