Settmour Swamp Quest 2005 |
Warning, this is a simple site. While I have served The Swamp before, I am currently a wandering SCAdian.......Mithgiladan
Welcome to this page of pictures from Settmour Swamps Twenty Second Quest. The event was named That Was Zen and This is Tao and Japanese themed which was immediately apparent from the gates made by Galen and crew. The red gates(one seen in the picture to the right) were made of pvc tubing, painted and then placed at two key locations on the site during set up. The site, Nashanic Station in NJ, continues to serve wonderfully as it is very sceanic and relaxing. Even the periodically passing trains lend an air of the outback to the event. The encampment is a interesting mix of both period and commercial pavillians. The range of encampments also spanned between functional and commercial. Some number of the encampments were out for a test run before this summers upcoming Pennsic.
The pictures to the right are a small selection of sights as you wander around the encampment and you can click on them to see larger versions of each. Some of the structures are time worn and tested while others are either new or reengineered.
The event traditionally has a feast and puzzle and feat based "scavenger hunt" styled Quest which started with the wedding of the missing monk so many years ago(back when we worshiped the great "God" Igga...LOL). I was with Carillion back then and much younger but I was indeed there. At this event we had our fun Quest and feast which was Japanese style, a tough thing to pull off in the field! There were also the Baronial Championship tourneys for Heavy Weapons, Fencing, Arts, Archery and Bardic skills(and maybe some others, the mind goes you know..). As well there was a rousing game of Hurling...wonderful to watch! Go Galen!!!!(nooo, not partisan at all!)

In the end, of course, we all had fun, sat with old friends and made new ones, treasured experiences and played silly games. If you want more info on The SCA then click here, Settmour Swamp, click here. If you were there and have pictures you want included, email me by clicking this link. If you are part of the Barony Settmour Swamp web team and would like to take over this content, you are welcomed and should also click my email link above so we can set that up.
In the end, the welcoming and gracious family of Their Excellencies Settmour Swamp showed us a fantastic time and we were once more reminded why we visit, help out and care for The People of the Mud!
