Set: |
|
I will challenge two students to
solve the same math problem. I will ask the one to solve it mentally and
the other using pencil and paper.
|
|
Procedures: |
|
-
I will begin by explaining how we
can add or subtract numbers easier by using two techniques.
-
I will introduce the terms break
apart and compensation.
-
I will ask students if they have
any techniques they use to help them mentally add or subtract numbers.
-
Next, we will go over several
examples together using break apart and compensation.
-
I will have students try various
problems and choose their method; break apart, compensation, or paper and
pencil.
-
Finally, to reinforce using mental
math we will play the race game.
