~ About
Kelsey ~ Western
States Jr. Teen
America
Throughout the summer I set up a booth at various
fairs and events
across the
state to enlist the aid of youths in creating a mobile of
1001 origami cranes
with messages
of peace, hope, and friendship.
Youth volunteers helped me show others
how to make the
cranes.
Inside each crane they wrote a short message. On the
underside of the
crane's
wings they wrote their name, age, and hometown.
A mobile of cranes was constructed as gift from the youth of
my state to the city of New York in memory of those lost on Sept. 11, 2001
On September 11th I delivered it to New York on my way to the
National Jr. Teen America competition in Connecticut.
We requested
that it be
hung at the memorial being
constructed on the former site of the Twin Towers.
