With Schumacher comfortably in the lead, the race to watch was the Battle of the Hondas between Jordan/Mugen Honda's Heinz-Harald Frentzen and BAR/Honda's Jacques Villeneuve. Jacques inched closer and closer and finally, he made a daring inside pass at Turn 1 late in the race, but came in too hot and drove through the grass. The battle continued to the end of the race with their positions unchanged, Frentzen 3rd, Villeneuve 4th.

Ironically, the drivers that showed extraordinary talent during practice and qualifying retired from the race, namely Jordan's Jarno Trulli and Williams' Jenson Button. With Juan Montoya coming from CART and replacing Button at Williams next year, it'll be very interesting to see this trio of young drivers compete for the Championship against the veteran trio of Frentzen, Villeneuve, and Ralf Schumacher.
