Grid Girl Braving the Chilly Weather

Formula One is not just about racing, but it's also about glamour, and that's where the Grid Girls come in. Each of them has to stand on the grid before the race, carrying a sign with the car number to show the drivers (and the fans) where to look and go. I felt sorry for the Grid Girls, as they stood in the cold rain for the supporting race (Porsche Pirelli Series) as well as for the F-1 race.
Juan Montoya at the Starting Grid

Numerous Who's Who of racing was at the Speedway, including Mario Andretti (who raced a Porsche Pirelli car), Parnelli Jones, Eddie Cheever, Jr., Emerson Fittipaldi, and Arie Luyendyk, just to name a few. CART driver Paul Tracy was caught on the Big Screen walking around the pits. I spotted Indy 500 winner/CART champ/future Williams driver Juan Montoya here during the pre-grid, looking sort of lost in the shuffle.
