Eddie Cheever Jr., 1998 Indy 500 winner and former Formula One driver was quoted in a press release talking about the major difference between American racing events and Formula One: there are stunningly gorgeous women in the pit lanes for F-1 events! I was on the lookout, and these women just happened to walk by.

There were lots of international fans at Indianapolis this weekend, as I chatted with people from England, Germany, Italy, and Finland. There were some Japanese fans as well, although not as much as I expected. One of the concession vendors complained about the lack of beer consumption of F-1 fans compared to NASCAR fans. Most of the fans were wearing Ferrari red or yellow, but there were good numbers of McLaren, Williams, and Jacques Villeneuve fans. The most radical fans were from Finland, with their faces painted or wearing outrageous Finland outfits, chanting "Mika Hakkinen" rhythmically. It was a familiar sight for me, as I saw the wacky Finns at Suzuka in both 1998 and 1999.
