From the quill of Benga Lo Hashim, Paramount of Magistrate's Academy
{Date according to Steve} K'lan was ours from the moment of his birth. Being the third son of the king meant that even if his testing had failed, he would be entrusted to our instruction no matter what his talent. No inheritance like a first son. No command of armies like the second. K'lan's path was always down the scholarly road, barring some unforeseen accident, of course. The king is still well, however. And K'lan, far from failing the testing, has succeeded and even excelled among his peers. He shows a natural knack for our arts, though his talents sometimes lie along strange paths.
{Date according to Steve} Only recently were we able to teach K'lan how to wield the raw elemental powers, and his natural tendencies seem to progress more in illusory and trickery domains. I can imagine that were he not ostracized as he is by his classmates he could well be the class prankster. Though he is oddly reluctant to participate in the fierce intramural competition. With his recent developments we were finally able to initiate him and give him his first Magistrate's Robe. He seems to be well in our hands right now. Perhaps we might discuss moving soon.
{Date according to Steve} Disaster. I have overestimated our influence on K'lan Morning drastically. For this I submit myself to judgement by the Academy Council. K'lan apparently overheard a conversation about our intentions regarding both him and his father. Despite our rearing of him he has developed a will entirely of his own making. His talents far outstripped what I believed him capable of at this time and he was able to vacate these premises even after we gave chase. What he hopes to accomplish on his own is beyond me. He will be hunted, but if i may suggest, the search must be covert, and he must be taken alive. We can still salvage the plan with a little caution...
