The Wheel of Time
WoT, or, The Wheel of Time RPG is a role-playing game based on the world of Robert Jordan's
best-selling fantasy epic, The Wheel of Time. The first book, The Eye of the World, was
published in 1990 (I believe) by TOR books, and 9 books have followed it, with the end just
starting to come into sight for the series. The Wheel of Time Role-Playing Game campaign
setting core book was published in 2001 by Wizards of the Coast, and not long after that a
campaign adventure book, The Prophecies of the Dragon, came out. At present, WotC has nothing
further to do with WoT, as their contract has run out. No support. The setting is d20, and,
incidentally, has some of the best WoT art i've seen. FAR and away superior to anything done
by D. K. Sweet on the covers, and it makes the Big Book of Bad Art (The WoT Guide) look like
it was done by preschoolers. Or me. Which is the same. The cover is still obvious D.K. Sweet,
but even that is much better than any of his covers for the novels. (Try comparing the Ogier
on that to Loial on tGH's cover. ugh.)
DragonLance
Dragon Lance is actually a D&D setting which spawned
trilogies, novels and anthologies. Although many
authors have contributed stories to the history of the
world of Krynn, Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman
coauthored most of the major books in the series.
Published by TSR, and probably written in Lake Geneva,
it has produced some of the most popular books in the
Fantasy genre, and produced one of fantasy's best
known characters, Raistlin Majere. Basically, the
original trilogy (the Chronicles series) is the time
setting that we are currently playing in. The other
best selling trilogies are the Legends and War of
Souls series. As far as artwork, they aren't
Picaso's, but every cover properly convey's the
characters in the series, but I might be prejudiced
since I might know the guy who did them.
Modern
A group called ProjeCorp that has had its hands in just about everything technological in the past few years. Their main areas of importance are genetic splicing
with animals, mostly for fashions sake. They are more well known for their research in complete limb and just recently, full body (minus the head) transplants.
Most think its a great thing, but many see it as turning people into cyborgs. They are also making advances in terraforming the Sahara desert to make parts if
it habitable. In any event, they are incredibly popular yet mysterious because of the lack of knowledge as to where they came from. Along with that there has
been a significant rise in mental activity. Clinics have opened all around the world, mostly in the US and funded by ProjeCorp, to evaluate this phenomena.
Dark Conspiracy
Its everyones favorite game from GDW (Unless you are more of a fan of fighting Russians, counting rads, and half hour
grenade tosses). Set in a grim alternate (we hope) future, Dark Conspiracy is the tale of our heros from varied
backgrounds fighting shadows in the shadows. Vampires, ET's, Cyborgs, Morlocks, Giant Plastic Army Men, you never know
what you'll see next.
Irth
[from steve:]
Irth, pronounced the same as Earth, is my pet project that will be such probably for the rest of my life because I am a procrastinator. In any event, this is a
complicated world that has some of its origins with our own. I think its a fun little tale that includes aliens, magic, very good people, very evil people, and new
races that were created by my friends and I.
