In the DL setting, various ages are visited, and this campaign starts during the Age of Despair, which is the same time that Chronicles occurs. In fact, in this game, the Heroes of the Lance have been replaced by our 6 characters, who travel a similar path. Like in the books, at the start of the campaign, dragons were a myth, the old gods had abandoned Krynn, and steel was more valuable than gold. Since then, the group has met and destroyed a black dragon, they have rediscoverd the old gods, and with that discovery, brought true clerics back to Krynn. Gold is still worthless.
