Venda Police

The Venda Police (VP) was formed on the disbandment of the Venda National Force in April 1985. It was incorporated into the South African Police Service (SAPS) in January 1995. A series of decorations and medals, corresponding to the VNF awards, was instituted for the VP. It became obsolete in January 1995.

VP Medal for Combating Terrorism (1985)
Insignia: A circular bronze medal displaying two upright battle-axes and a drum in the centre of an 8-pointed star (obverse), and the VP badge with the words "U Lwa Na Vhutherorisi - Combating Terrorism" (reverse).


VP Establishment Medal (1985)
Issued to founder members of the force in 1985.

Insignia: A circular bronze medal displaying the VP badge (obverse), and the Venda coat of arms with the words "Vhuthomi - Establishment 1985-04-01" (reverse).

VP Medal for Loyal Service
For 20 years faithful service.

Insignia: A circular medal displaying an elephant's head (obverse), and the VP badge with the words "U Fulufhedzea Mushomoni - Faithful Service" (reverse).


VP Medal for Faithful Service
For 10 years faithful service.

Insignia: A circular medal displaying a baobab tree (obverse), and the VP badge with the words "Tshumelo i Fhulufhedzeyaho - Loyal Service" (reverse).
