Baby Annika's First Website! |
|
Update
It has been too long since the last update. Annika is growing to fast in order for us to
keep the website up-to-date. I guess that just means you will have to come visit us frequently
to keep up with her development!
At the time of writing Annika is about 5 1/2 months old. Annika started sleeping in her own room in her own bed when we came back from St Thomas at the end of January (see this link for more pictures of Annika and beautiful St Thomas). That went smoothly and she seems to enjoy having her own space as she likes to roll and kick before falling asleep. She gets up about 1 to 2 times a night to get a quick snack, but she now goes to bed earlier and sleeps longer, typically from 9 to 7, but it varies a lot. Very recently (this week) she has gone through the night without eating a couple of times. We are very impressed and hopes that she keeps it up.
Annika also started going to daycare as mom started going to work again. She really likes it there and likes to be with the other kids and the daycare providers. Apparently she's wrestling with one of the other kids, Jacob, who's 10 months old. From the stories we hear it seems like Annika is handling the situation just fine and is fending for her self real well. She's a pretty strong little girl and we are very impressed.
Annika also started supplementing moms breastmilk with some rice and oatmeal cereal. That's
going really well once dad realized that she can't handle as big spoonfulls as he can (see
pictures below). She can handle quite a load of cereal, especially of the oatmeal, and we are
very impressed with that.
Now dinner time is a family event with everybody eating at the table together.
This is a nice change from before when one of us what always "occupied". Either mom was feeding
Annika while dad was eating or mom was eating while dad was comforting Annika or visa versa.
We also tried to introduce her to peas, but that was NOT a success!
Annika has always been more fond of standing on her legs than playing around on her stomach. As a result she can now stand on her own leaning against the coffee or something of similar height (ok, only for a short time), but she has only rolled over a few times. She can also sit up on her own without support for a short while. She's really good at handling things. She's been able to pull out her pacifier and put it back in her mouth for months. Her latest trick is to take it out, spin it around a couple of times and pop it back in the mouth. We are very impressed, but think that she's just showing off when she's doing that.

The pictures are more or less in the order that they were taken. The first ones are from when Uncle Poul Erik and Aunt Christine got married in October. The pictures in the middle section are from various X-mas parties (Al & Vera's, Danish House, Our own open house and Kathy and Tim's). The last ones are from early February.
Remember to go to see the St Thomas pictures too!
