| August The Aliens have flown home! The B.A. flight was non eventfull and we landed on the 2nd at 8:30am. Collected a hire car and drove to Fareham to visit Mike's family. We stayed overnight catching up with the news and watching the rain at Glorious Goodwood. Cowes Week follows. Then headed to Plymouth to drop off the car and meet Mum & Dad who brought us back over the still to be completed Tamar Bridge extention. We've been busy in the garden, pruning and hacking various shrubs (watched by Ben) as well as enjoying long walks around the farm and over the moors. Saffron buns and Scrabble. We've visited Cheesering, Okehampton and Callington...... Bodmin Moor web site. 12th.Today we are celebrating our 18th Wedding Anniversary! We didn't go to the Devon County Show partly because there was no livestock but we were too tired! The affects of FMD are still evident everywhere. The effects on farmers are as contagious as the infection itself. All efforts seem insufficient and inefficient, the inconveniences and the added expenses have put a finanial and an emotional strain on the farming community. The inconclusive, inconsistent and inaccurate reports are frustrating. New outbrecks have been detected so the ineffective controlls continue to escalate in this inexplicable affair. Where it will all end.....no one knows. Cows keep calving, the grain harvest goes on, straw is baled and stored...more stacked in fields to cut down on travelling on the roads according to the regulations. When the cows lie down rain is on the way, not when Jess lies down. We went shopping in Plymouth and had Pasties on The Hooe. Took a hike along Whitsand Bay sands then back along the coast road taking in the views of Rame Head. The Cornwall stretch of The S.W. Coast Path is 481.64 KM whats that 330+ miles? Still busy in the garden and sweeping the chimney. There was a crack in the pot so a quick job became an afternoon event. Stayed afew days with Mike's family in Hampshire. Southsea was teeming with every shape and size of boat celebrating The Festival of The Sea, plus aircraft overhead, it was quite a spectacle as we promenaded along the seafront, stopping at Langston Harbour for refreshments. We visited Lee On Solent, Warsash, Victoria Park at Netley, Bucklers Hard near Beaulieu on the edge of the New Forest then took the ferry at Poole across to Studland Beach, spent some time topping up the tans before driving home via Corfe Castle... Ben was awaiting our return. Sovereign was pleased to see us. He has company now. Thats our August Trip. |
