Rick Hearst's Event
Rick Hearsts event was the next day, and proved to be very entertaining, for a number of reasons. His guests were Corbin Bernsen, Lindze Letherman, Adrianne Leon, Cynthia Preston, Nancy Lee Grahn, Becky Herbst, and Sean Kanan (EEEEEEE!!!), and his family (wife, sons, mom, and grandfather). The sneak peek that Corbin gave us of Carpool Guy was fabulously funny. I think it should prove to be a great little movie. He even gave Marie a shout out when he mentioned having a fan watching part of the rough cut in his dressing room and knowing what was coming up in the movie (she read the online script). He and Rick both talked about working together, and Corbin talked about other movies he wants to do, including ones with Lindze and Cynthia (a film called Bella for Cynthia). He gave out autographed movie posters and car air fresheners to the audience (street level marketing!).
Rick talked a little bit about charities he works with as a way on introducing the Bursons from Escape Childrens Theater, a nonprofit group he supports that involves children in the arts. He had talked a little bit previously about how his sons are now involved in the thearter, splitting the role of the Cowardly Lion in The Wizard of Oz. I was amused, because I collect (well, I should say that I collect by default, since everyone always gives me cowardly lion stuff, whether I want it or not) Cowardly Lion items after playing the role myself many moons ago.
Cynthia called Rick an outrageous flirt and Adrianne and Lindze both talked about how nice he was to work with. Nancy said that he was sweet to put up with her and that hed been very helpful through some tough times. Someone asked about the Rexis baby, and she said that the baby would be born and was talking about the sex of the child and said jokingly that it didnt matter as long as the baby was healthy and a girl (note from me: BOY! BOY! BOY!). Since this has already been posted, Ill add it in she also asked Rick if he had seen the script for the next day and what they were going to have to do, and he said he did and knew shed have problems with it. She said shed received a call from Bill Ludel (one of the directors) and he begged her to just say the lines. Rick talked about how confusing it must be for the viewers sometimes to watch the show and see scenes not make much sense from one to the other and that sometimes it must be like your head just falls over when watching. Oh, and Nancy asked Cynthia if she was coming back to the show, said shed heard some rumors. Cynthia played it coy and said shed heard she might be a Quartermaine and Nancy said Wed be related. Sooooo, its not clear whether Cynthia misspoke and meant to say Cassadine, or Nancy just misheard Cassadine instead of Quartermaine. Either way, hmmmmm.
After the ladies left, Rick put on a video that one of his fans, Beth, had made for him. It was a look at all of his work, and parts of his life. She used clips from GH, Days, Y&R, B&B, (they were his cross-dressing scenes, which got HUGE laughs and Rick fell over on the stage saying no, no, no when they were on), Charmed, Warlock 3, Beverly Hills 90210, and a few other movies hes appeared in. Then they got to clips of him from Soapography and clips of his family, and he just awwwed. You could tell his absolute favorite was seeing the clips of his appearance on Oprah when his son had just been born. He said he hadnt seen that in 12, or so, years. Oh, and his mom made goodie bags for everyone, with Italian cookies and the recipe for her lasagna inside. From the looks of it, you could tell she put a lot of work into it. Ricks boys even helped assemble the bags, tying the ribbons around them.
After the video, Becky arrived, and shortly after, Sean Kanan. Sean was SUCH a hit and looks great. He mingled with the crown a bit, signing posters and such as Rick made his rounds to the tables. Becky answered a few questions. While Rick was mingling, he played music Frank Sinatra, Guys and Dolls. Again, for people who know me, those were perfect musical choices. It was nice. Everyone just chatted with friends and had some drinks while waiting ;-).
The event was running long, so the remaining tables were moved to the gazebo outside so the room could be cleared. The gazebo ended up being a great place for photos anyway. While waiting for our table to be called, we watched the rest of the people meeting Rick. Rachel (Watching4RexisNSkyLo on SZ) had a lanyard/badge thing that had Ric/Alexis/Lorenzo/Skye on it, calling them her "fab four" and Rick asked what it was. She showed him and told him she was into Rexis and SkyLo as the "fab four" and Rick said "We could be into that." You can imagine Rachel's reaction at that, and I had a "eeeee" moment as well.
Finally it was my turn. Again, as with Nancy, I was nervous, but he couldnt have been nicer. He talked a little bit about giving back to the fans through these events as he signed my photos for me and all I could do was nod and say Uh-huh, thank you. Its nice to meet you.
Thats when Marie broke in and told him that I was the one hed signed a birthday photo for.
I thanked him for that too and he told me happy birthday, and thats when my loud-mouth (which I adore her for), non-GH watching friend told him You know, Nancy sang to her.
Next thing I know, I was being grabbed, hugged, and Rick Hearst was singing "Happy Birthday" in my ear, with his hand on the back of my head, and rocking me slightly (one of my feet even had to leave the ground)!
Not enough *swoon* in the world. ;-) I finally got my nice photo with Rick, though I wish Id been able to think to put my damned folder down. LOL!
After that, I hung out with some friends from boards here and there (and got to meet RE's Dara briefly before I left) then we had dinner before I finally crashed, exhausted, into bed. And so ends my GHFCW recap. -Rhea (who, YES! was wearing buttons ;-)
