Nuriko is a chosen memeber of the Suzaku Seven. When Miaka first met him/her, Miaka and Tamahome were trapped under a fallen shrine. Nuriko arrived just in time to rescue the two from certain peril. With the strenth given to him from Suzaku Seiken, Nuriko had no problem lifting the heavy pieces of the broken shrine. In the beginning Nuriko gave Miaka a troublesome time, out of jealousy of the Emperors (Hotori) affections towards Miaka. Later they learn of Nuriko's true identity, a man in womans clothing. Nuriko dressed in females clothes to honor the death of his siter Kourin. Soon after they become close, so close that infact they would die for one-another. In the episode "Farewell Nuriko" Nuriko gives his life for the priestess of Suzaku,(lady Miaka). Nuriko is one of the most kind and memorible members of the Suzaku.
