He grew up in a small village with his father and 4 younger siblings Chuei, Shunkei, Gyokuran and Yuiren. When his father fell ill, he had to support his family and went to the city to find ways to raise money. He ends up saving a "foreign girl", Miaka, and his life changed. Miaka falls in love with him, and he rejects her at first, but then falls in love with her. He is one of the suzaku seven and he protects Miaka with his life, not because of his duty but also because he cares deeply for her.
