EXPERIENCE RECORD

December 1999 - present
Thailand, Ecological Monitoring Officer, Forest and the People Project/The Herbarium/DANCED.
April-May 2000. During a three week attachment to the project, advise and surveys were implemented to determine the distribution and status of Dipterocarpaceae on Mt. Doi Inthanon, Chiang Mai. Technical assistance and training of team members of the Herbarium/Arboretum was provided through plotless sampling surveys in three forest ecosystems, and analysis of data retrieved.

Thailand, Ecological Monitoring and Training Officer, FORGENMAP/DANCED/Royal Forest Department/ Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO).
One year attachment to the Forest Genetic Resources and Management Program implemented by the Royal Forest Department is the "In-situ Pilot Study of Ecosystem Conservation". Main objective is the development of a workable model for sustainable forest management co-existing with local communities, with focus on ecosystem rehabilitation and conservation. Specific tasks consisted of the preparation and coordination of a training course on extension methodologies and the identification of participants within the Government and Non-Government sector. During the program ecological surveying and monitoring in participation with local people of the pilot study sites are being coordinated. Activities are designed to support stakeholders in writing up a conservation and management plan.

December 1996 - November 1999
Thailand, Ecological Interpretation Officer, Forest Herbarium, Royal Forest Department/VSO.
Three year planning and implementation of forest surveys and data analysis of forest types in National Park Mae Wong in the Western Forest Complex. Monthly visits were undertaken to collect structural and floristic information from various forest types. Park staff were trained and involved in surveying and interpretation of forest ecosystems in order to inform tourists about the importance of the biodiversity conservation. At the same time interpretation material for lay people interested in botany, ecology and natural resources protection was developed

Thailand, Ecological Monitoring Officer, FORGENMAP/FAO/DANAGRO/DANIDA Forest Seed Centre.
November 1998 and September 1999. Three week attachment to the Pinus merkusii assessment in Thailand to provide botanical, technical and linguistic assistance. Environmental threats were identified through surveys and communications with local people on past and present utilisation of the natural resources.

September 1995 - September 1996
The Netherlands, Research, Department of Forestry, Agricultural University Wageningen.
Voluntary participating in the departmental study on mixed forest growth, yield and competition of species growing in a mixture. Immediate tasks involved setting up a first census in forest stands consisting of mixtures of Pinus sylvestris and Quercus robur, Q. petraea, data analysis and an in-debt study on plant competition.

February - May 1995
Australia, Thesis, North Queensland, Atherton, Department of Primary Industries (DPI), Department of Forestry, Agricultural University Wageningen
Inventory and analysis on the effects of the Queenland Logging System on the remaining forest stand, by analysing pre-harvest data and, data directly after and 5 years after logging. In addition a skid-track impact study was undertaken

January - May 1994
The Netherlands, Thesis, Department of Forestry, Agricultural University Wageningen Thesis work on mixed forest growth, yield and competition of species growing in a mixture. This involved setting up and carrying out forest inventories in mixtures and moncultures of
Pinus sylvestris and Quercus robur, Q. petraea and data analysis.

March - June 1992
Costa Rica and The Netherlands, Thesis, International Agricultural College Larenstein, CATIE.
Data on the growth performance of Teak plantations from different parts of Costa Rica was obtained by inventories. Additionally, in a cooperation with CATIE data was exchanged for database improvement and analysis.

January 1990 - August 1990
Cameroon, Trainee/Forester SBK BEKOL and Cameroon Forest Service, Kribi
Seven months attachment as part of a four year B.Sc. program. Tasks consisted on supervising saw-mill works and forest activities, such as road and bridge preparations, tree cutting and timber extraction. In a  study the structure of primary rainforest was compared with logged over rainforest  Additionally a charcoal project was initiated using timber waste.
