Kordell Stewart....Though Kordell Stewart has had some shining moments throughout last season, this is it. When he has played well I've supported him, when he's played terrible I've supported him. He has had a above average running game at the very least behind him and with his own running ability that he has shown in years past, I would hope that that aspect of his game will surface this year. He still remains in Pittsburgh, but the release of Kirkland and Dawson can be very agonizing when the question remains "why is Stewart still here?". This and that about Coordinators could be true, and all the other reasons for his lack of performance, but hopefully this year we will not regret the off season releases along with the passing of Drew Breese in the draft.
Jerome Bettis...."What more can you say about Jerome "Bus" Bettis? A thousand-yard rusher every year in a Steeler uniform, a pillar of the community, and just a tough player. Jerome has been injured a few times here and there but the man still gets it done on the field. With the Steeler QB Dept. lacking, defenses key on the run, its that simple, but Bettis still produces those thousand yard seasons hurt or not. He is key re-acquisition in the off-season and the flat out leader on the offense. For those of you who don't like the little "Bettis Shuffle" after a run, tough shit! Somebody has to do something to get that "O" fired up and 9 times outta 10 it's him.
Levon Kirkland....Levon, dam it just kills me to think of him not in the middle next year. By now you would figure all of us Steelers fans would be immune to it. You know, losing key players every dam year. Its like a flue shot, it stings a little at first, you get nauseated, and then your immune to it, I wish it was that easy! Him being over weight, losing a step, WHATEVER! Well see how slow and over weight he is when teams are running threw our defense more than ever in the last 10 years. I like Holmes and Fiala, but I just dont think either of them has the run stopping ability or coverage speed of Kirland. Hampton coming in as rookie to fill Kemos spot at nose tackle will help the inside some, I guess all that's left is well see how good of a decision it was to let him go....
Good luck in Seattle Levon!
Jack Lambert...."I was so fortunate to have played on some of the greatest teams of all time and arguably the greatest defense ever assembled. And finally, how fortunate I was to play for the Pittsburgh fans... a proud and hard-working people who love their football and their players. If I could start my life all over again, I would be a professional football player, and you damn well better believe I would be a Pittsburgh Steeler!" August 4, 1990, Hall of Fame Induction...
"When you start talking about attitude and focus, Jack is the epitome. He was the most focused individual I've ever had." -- Chuck Noll --
DAM, YOU GOTTA LUV THAT...Brings a tear to my eye every time I read it :)
