Ask and ye shall receive,
But for a woman I perceive,
It is not easy to ask for more
Than dirty dishes and well scrubbed floors.
Im supposed to be a Super Mum,
But my shoes are stuck with chewing gum.
I wash, I cook, I clean, I sew,
I love my children and watch them grow.
I clean their shoes and cut their hair,
I hear both sides to keep it fair.
I bandage knees and patch their bikes,
I check homework and fly their kites.
I drive them around and chaperone,
With barely a moment to call my own.
Some dinner, dishes, baths and bed,
And then some time for the man I wed.
This day is done, tomorrows another,
Such is the life of a wife and mother.
A day like this could put me in traction!
It should supply full satisfaction.
Yet deep within me lies a core
That silently screams and begs for more.
I must get off this endless track!
I must go forwards, I cant go back.
A mind like a flower needs to grow.
Who can I ask? Who would know?
I look; I search for a course correction.
I turn to ask for a new direction.
I now have a goal, a challenge to meet,
That brightens my day and makes it complete.
Office and library, classrooms too,
Posters and big books to name just a few.
Computing and typing between the dishes,
Somehow tends to fill all my wishes.
The time has come I truly believe
When a woman may ask and WILL receive.
