Adams, Kristin

Adawehi - Mentioned in Ma?i.coh: the Skinwalker and Interlude, Adawehi was the mother of Evan Rayne, co-founder of the San Francisco Legacy House. Thus, she was Derek Rayne's great-great-grandmother. She was a renowned Cherokee shamaness or "conjurer." More detail may be found in the Rayne Family History.

Ali - A young man of the R'om tribe, who accompanies Derek Rayne on his mission into Afghanistan in 911.

the Anointed One - In S2's the Reckoning, the sprite, Christina, calls Derek Rayne "the Anointed One". It is unknown if, in the series, this was intended to be synonymous with "the Chosen One".

However, in the Merlynn's Maze world, it is taken to mean something more. This story is detailed in Al-Kufrah and Bladed Cross, Books I and II of "the Anointed", and is touched upon in Ma?i.coh: the Skinwalker, Death Watch and Ruminations I and Ruminations II.

Archbishop Seguin - A Merlynn's Maze character. He is the chief prelate of the San Francisco Archdiocese, a longtime friend of the Rayne family, and aware of the existence of the Legacy. He officiates at Derek Rayne's wedding in Al-Kufrah, at his funeral service in Bladed Cross, and he is mentioned in Death Watch.

Arthur, Malcolm - In 911, an orderly in Wells Ward, who is actually a Legacy Internal Affairs officer under Franklin Cross.

Barrow, Elizabeth "Liz" (Molly Parker) - A former girl friend of Nick Boyle's. She appeared in the S2 episode, Do Not Go Gently, in which Nick and Derek save her from a monster that inhabits her dreams while she is in a coma, induced by an evil doctor. She appears briefly in the Merlynn's Maze world in A SEAL's Legacy.

Boyle, Nick

Boyle, Maj. Robert Jonathan

Callaghan, Fr. Philip

Carlton, Dr. Frances (Kim Restell) - Frances Carlton seems to be with the San Francisco Coroners Office. She seems to perhaps have had more than a professional friendship with Nick Boyle. She appeared twice in PTLs S1, in the Bones of St. Anthony and Crystal Scarab. In S2, there was only one appearance, in Rough Beast. In S3, she was in Darkness Falls, Light of Day, Enlightened One, Hell Hath No Fury, and Metamorphosis.

In the Merlynns Maze world she assists Nick in Ruminations I, following the destruction of the San Francisco House. She also makes an appearance in New Beginnings... Ancient Endings.

Carmack, Det. Frank (Tim Butler) - Frank Carmack was Dereks friend and "inside" source into the SFPD. He appeared in the S2 episode Transference, and was mentioned in Shadow Fall and Finding Richter. Sadly, out of revenge for a friends death, he fell to the Darkside in S3's Hell Hath No Fury, and was killed. In S4, Det. Royce seemed to have inherited his files.

In "our" world he appeared only in Ma?i.coh: the Skinwalker and received mention in Ruminations, because of the guilt Derek feels about introducing him to the world of the Legacy.

Carter, Sgt. - A former sergeant in the British SAS, who is now a top operative for Ian Kincaid. He appears in 911, as a Derek's nurse at Well's Ward.

Causantic - An ancient Pictish King, who, along with his ghostly tribe, haunted the bog at Marston Moor in the Heavenly Choir.

Charlie - A young man who lives down the hall from Derek in the San Miguel Hotel in Ruminations II. He is a former doctor who did a crash and burn on drugs while completing his residency, and as a result contracted AIDS from dirty needles. He treats Derek for his injuries incurred when the House is destroyed at the conclusion of the series finale, The Beast Within.

Chioa, the BEAST - see Sammael.

the Chosen One - "Upon the eve of Apocalypse a 'Chosen One' shall come forward... dying that others might live," so says Derek in the Beast Within. It is at first believed that this is Kristin, who sacrifices herself to defeat the evil Fr. Elias in the S4 episode, the Portents. However, in the end, it is Derek who sacrifices himself to permanently seal the Portal and so prevent the Apocalypse and the rise of the Anti-Christ.

It is unknown if the series intended this to be synonymous with the Anointed One.

Christina (Zelda Rubinstein) - A spectre who materializes as a middle-aged, "little person," who speaks in rhyme, and seems to have a fondness for the San Francisco Legacy House. She appeared to Derek, Nick, and Kat in the S2 episode, the Reckoning. Later in the season, in Trapped, it became apparent that William Sloan also knew of her, but was unaware of Dereks experiences.

It is she who calls Derek Rayne the "Anointed One" in the Reckoning.

In the Merlynn's Maze world, Christina also appears to Sloan in Al-Kufrah, in which she forecasts subsequent events in this book and its sequel, Bladed Cross. More than a dozen years later, she appears to Kat in Ma?i.coh: the Skinwalker. It is possible that she is the ghost of Derek Rayne's seventeenth century ancestor, Christina, the wife of Thomas Rayne.

Christy - Christy Anderson, one of the teenaged runaways who becomes a resident of Derek's Hollywood halfway house in New Beginnings... Ancient Endings.

the Commandant - A villain in Al-Kufrah. He is the commander of a terrorist training camp located near Al-Kufrah in Libya. At several points in Al-Kufrah and in Bladed Cross, Derek unwittingly refers to him as "the Beast".

Corrigan, Katherine Kat

Corrigan, Dr. Rachel

Cross, Franklin (Stewart Finlay-McLennan) - In the "canon" version of PTL, Cross, a Scotsman, is the Legacy's Chief Investigator. He was killed near the beginning of S4's The Traitor by the resurrected Darksider, Reed Horton, who assumes his identity and proceeds to frame Derek for his own murder. In reality, Derek had many years before executed the Darkside minion upon the orders of the Legacy.

In our world, Franklin Cross survives. In Death Watch, he assumes charge of the San Francisco House while its precept, Derek Rayne, lies in a coma throughout the entirety of S4. A Ruling Council toadie, he appears in Fortune's Wheel, where we discover that he has been dating Patty Sloan. He is also mentioned in Interlude and New Beginnings... Ancient Endings, as making a general pest of himself, which he is in a significant way in 911.

Darke, James - One of the "ids", which co-inhabited Carlton West in New Beginnings... Ancient Endings. James Darke was a British actor/director/producer who moved to Hollywood, where he primarily focused on silent horror films. An innovator and perfectionist, he developed "method acting" before Strasberg, believed in extensive research, in using authentic props, and was playing with sound before Al Jolson's the Jazz Singer. Unfortunately, he became inhabited by the "ids", but was able to resist the drive to murder. He ultimately went insane from his battle with evil & died in 1926 at a British insane asylum. His last great epic the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde remained unfinished.

de Foix, Justin - A French Vicomte, ally of Derek Rayne's, and friend of Fr. Joseph Thomas. He is a scholar of ancient texts and seems to hold a significant position within the Legacy, perhaps even a seat on the Ruling Council. He plays a significant role in 911.

Drake, Dr. Amanda - A character of the Merlynn's Maze world. A protegee of Derek Rayne, Dr. Drake, a psychic, is the Precept of the Los Angeles Legacy House in Ma?i.coh: the Skinwalker and in New Beginnings... Ancient Endings.

Fr. Elias (David Birney) - In PTL's S4 episode, the Portents, Kristin returned as an "angelic" Chosen One to destroy this evil priest when he tried to breech the Portal to bring about the Apocalypse.

In the Merlynn's Maze world, he has a counterpart in Fr. Elihu, a priest who tries to sever Derek's life line in Death Watch.

"the Dutchman" - In the Merlynn's Maze world, "the Dutchman" is Ian Kincaid's code name for Derek Rayne.

Fr. Elihu - Father Elias' villainous counterpart in Death Watch.

Fitzgerald, Dominick

Gardner, Bruce - Patriarch of the immense Gardner clan, Bruce is the precept of New York City's Legacy House when he first appears in Al-Kufrah. He is the father of Kymberlee "Kym" Gardner. In Bladed Cross, he accepts the post of Vice-Precept in London and succumbs to Darkside temptations.

Gardner, Kymberlee Lynette "Kym" - A character only of the Merlynns Maze world. She is the youngest child of Bruce and Victoria Gardner and wife of Derek Rayne.

While Kym and Derek were still children, an arranged marriage was agreed upon by their fathers with the encouragement of the Legacy. Both the Raynes and the Gardners were psychically gifted families and even more talented offspring were hoped for. As a result of tragedy, Derek, who is seven years older, and Kym consented to accept the marriage and were first wed in New York. Both had given up on love and were resigned to companionship. Kyms first love, Bernardo, had been horrifically slain by a demon, while Derek had lost Alicia Summers on a Legacy expedition, and prior to her, Laura. However, love unexpectedly blossomed and their vows were renewed in a church wedding at Mission Dolores in 1982 at the beginning of Al-Kufrah. Kym is also instrumental in Bladed Cross.

Kym and all the Gardners were the creation of Selena, whose other Kym and Derek stories may be found at in the Legacy.Org Fanfic Library

Ginge - Corporal Martin Jones of the British SAS. In 911, "Ginge" and Nick have bad luck on a clandestine mission to Afghanistan.

Grayfox, Luke - A childhood friend of Derek's, who appears in Interlude, and is mentioned in Fortune's Wheel. A mixed-blood Native American, he lives in the Four Corners area of the US Southwest with his wife, Maria, and a large family, including his eldest son, "JD," Joseph Derek. He manages an extensive piece of land for the Sikyamya "Yellow Moon" Foundation, probably an offshoot of the Luna Foundation, which includes the cliff dwelling at Kwahu Canyon. Luke's father supervised Winston Rayne's various archaeological digs in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

Hamilton, Margaret Rose "Maggie Mae" - A Los Angeles Superior Court judge and longtime friend of Derek Rayne in an on-again-off-again romantic relationship. There are no strings attached; she has her career and life, he has his. It is the old maxim "opposites attract". A bit of a chameleon, she is a free spirit with brilliant legal mind and a mischievous, earthy sense of humor. She and Derek, whom she met while serving as Los Angeles County Assistant District Attorney, tend to rendezvous away from San Francisco.

Maggie, who somewhat resembles Katherine Hepburn, was born ca. 1955 in Amarillo, Texas and was raised on a ranch in Briscoe Co., TX with one brother, Matthew, a Vietnam veteran, now deceased. She raises "furry babies," her St. Bernards, which all bear floral names, at her home in Pasadena, California. She first appears in A SEAL's Legacy, where she is instrumental in getting Nick Boyle remanded to Derek's custody, an act which endangers her career. Later, she and Derek take a Caribbean vacation in Fortune's Wheel. In New Beginnings... Ancient Endings, it is at Maggie's suggestion that Derek found a youth hostel with his Lotto winnings.

Hasmit - A tracker of the R'om tribe, who accompanies Derek Rayne on his mission into Afghanistan in 911.

Hazmi, Dr. Johinda "Jo" - A doctor who appears in the final chapters of New Beginnings... Ancient Endings to care for Derek at Kincaid's secret refuge. She owes Kincaid because he rescued her entire village from the Soviet/Afghan war and later sent her to medical school. Her specialty is in dealing with war refugees & victims of systematic torture.

Heinricksen, Dick - The "stage" name that Derek Rayne assumes, when he goes undercover as an actor in New Beginnings... Ancient Endings.

Hewett & Hewett, Messrs. - The father and son law firm which represents Derek Rayne. The Hewetts have never made an appearance, but are mentioned in A SEAL's Legacy, Ruminations I.

Holmes, Peter - The human villain of The Heavenly Choir. His family, the local "Lords of the Manor," owned Marston Moor in Northumberland.

Horton, Reed (Simon MacCorkindale/Stewart Finlay-McLennan) - In PTL's S4, Horton, a being resurrected from Hell, carries out a vendetta against Derek Rayne. Like Derek he had been a college professor, whom Derek had apparently recruited. Unfortunately, he then turned to the Darkside and sometime around 1976 Derek was forced to kill him. In The Traitor, he killed Franklin Cross and assumed his identity in order to frame Derek for his own murder. Ultimately, he is defeated in Double Cross, but returns in Unholy Congress and Sacrifice, the episodes which see the deaths of Jane Witherspoon, Precept of the Boston House and her whole team, including Kristin Adams and her brother, Ethan. Again he is defeated and swept away to Hell, only to return yet again in Body and Soul, where he kills Derek's lover, Megan Torrance, then captures, tortures, and unsuccessfully brainwashes the precept. In the end, Derek defeats him yet again.

Horton appears in Death Watch, but only in the S4 time line. He has no demonic counterpart in the Merlynn's Maze world. So it is assumed that once Derek killed him, he stayed dead.

Ibn Aziz, Hasan - An Oxford classmate of Derek. In Al-Kufrah, it is he who convinces Derek to come to Libya to investigate Tanit. He is an international arms dealer under the banner of his company, "Green Flag Imports" of Khartoum and is known to support terrorist groups. He is also mentioned in Bladed Cross.

Ibn Sikander, Zarek - The leader, the Rumi-Khan, of the R'om people of the Hindu Kush. He first met Derek Rayne and Maj. Boyle when the Soviets invaded Afghanistan at the end of 1979. Therefore, it is he that Derek calls upon for help in 911.

Ids - Id is a psychological term that refers to that part of the psyche which provides psychic energy & which is associated with the instinctual needs and drives related to survival. In New Beginnings... Ancient Endings, they are a collective of evil entities that have formed around an original, ancient evil from India. As they have passed from host to host, turning that person into a monstrous killer like themselves, they have thrived and fed on the fear of their victims, whom they brutalize and ultimately slaughter alive. Once they have fled a host's body, the id of the past host joins the group.

The last host of the "ids" was Carlton West. Those known amongst the "ids" were: "the Naga," James Darke, and Nazi general, and Dr. Otto Von Suhlberg.

Isheth Zenunim - The villainess of Bladed Cross. One of Satan's brides, she was known as "the Harlot" and the "Princess of Screeching". See Sammael.

Jackson, Lafayette "Tiny" - A former football player, now a sergeant with LAPD homicide. In New Beginnings... Ancient Endings he tries to pin a series of grisley murders on Derek Rayne, but instead finds himself romantically falling for Alex Moreau. His partner is Lt. Paul Lutz.

Jack the Ripper - A very real serial killer who terrorized the White Chapel section of London in 1888. His known victims were 5 prostitutes... Mary Ann Nichols, Annie Chapman, Elizabeth Stride (aka Annie Fitzgerald), Catherine Eddowes, and Mary Kelly. However, there were at least a dozen other possible victims. The potential suspects have ranged from the Prince Albert Victor, aka "Eddy," the Duke of Clarence, heir apparent to the throne, to the author, Lewis Carroll, to the painter, Walter Sickert, to Royal/Masonic conspiracies to Jewish butchers. The case has never been solved.

Julian, Max - In Bladed Cross, he is the Darkside minion who succeeds Seor San Perdamo as Ruling Precept in London. He appears to be of French origin, but in reality, he is an ancient being. He was a Greek slave boy who became Julius Maximus, the Roman Procurator of Thrace. It was his downfall that gave the Legatus, the Roman Legacy, to the Darkside.

Kankin - Villain of He Restoreth My Soul, he is the incarnation of an ancient evil, linked with Xipe Totec, a Mesoamerican god. Kankin moves from body to body and can wait centuries until he senses the next physically and psychically suitable candidate.

Kincaid, Ian - A Brit of dubious background, who is a former Legacy member banished from the organization for betraying their secrets to the intelligence community. In his eyes, the Legacy had overstepped its bounds into a mercenary world they could not handle. He is a rogue with his own sense of honor and so went his own way to fulfill his obligations. Ever since he has been an information broker, working for the highest bidder.

Born ca. 1930, he is of the age group between Winston Rayne and Maj. Jonathan Boyle, and knew them both. He owes Winston his life and knew Maj. Boyle in Vietnam, when both were involved in "black-ops" and long range reconnaissance. He has a bickering relationship with William Sloan, and apparently an amicable one with Derek Rayne, whom he seems to admire and feels that he owes.

Kincaid appears in Al-Kufrah, when he meets with Sloan at the Cairo Museum to supply him with documents, weapons, and other necessities. He reappears in Bladed Cross, and may be the shadowy Brit who delivers a warning to Nick Boyle in Ruminations I, as well as the person who accompanied Derek on his climb of K2. He reappears to play a significant role in New Beginnings... Ancient Endings, where we discover more about his past, and 911.

Kincaid, Dr. Sir John - Ian Kincaid's grandfather. He was a prominant nineteenth century surgeon, who served as Precept of the Legacy House in Calcutta, India, where he was instrumental in the destruction of the Naga. Afterwards, he returned to London to become Ruling Precept. Unfortunately, he fell under the influence of the Nga's evil power and decended into an insanity... called Jack the Ripper. The Legacy then imprisoned him for the rest of his life in a lunatic asylum, which later became Wells Ward. However, a portion of his persona joined the Naga to became one of the "ids" housed within Carlton West.

Kitson - The villainous miner, who torments Derek, in A Killing Time.

Liu, Emily - The Vice-Precept of London House in 1982. She makes an appearance in Al-Kufrah at Derek Rayne's wedding. She appears to be an ally of Seor San Perdamo's faction and a close friend of William Sloan. In Bladed Cross, she dies of a "supposed" heart attack in November 1984.

Lolotse, Lila - A Hopi matriarch, Lila appears in Ma?i.coh: the Skinwalker. She is the matriarch and spiritual leader of her clan, and lives at Old Oraibi on the Hopi reservation in Arizona.

Lutz, Paul - A lieutenant with LAPD homicide. In New Beginnings... Ancient Endings he tries to pin a series of grisley murders on Derek Rayne. His partner is Lafayette "Tiny" Jackson.

McLean, Dr. Angus - A psychiatrist in Death Watch. Dr. McLean is the Chief Administrator of the Hospital of St. Michael and St. George, in Dorset, England & bears the status of Precept Titularis. The patients of Wells Ward are his particular responsibility. He has made it his career to try to cure them or at least discover what Dr. Reston's experiments did to them.

Masruq - A R'om tribesman, who accompanies Derek Rayne on his mission into Afghanistan in 911.

Merlin - King Arthurs teacher, mentor, magician, and possibly chancellor, also known as Myrrdin Emrys. He does not figure in the "canon" version of PTL, but in the Merlynns Maze world (Surprise! Surprise!).

In our universe, when King Arthur created the Round Table in fifth-century Britain to fight human, secular injustice and evil, Merlin revived the idea of the Legatus as spiritual counterpart to the Table. It would be "a secret society, known as the Legacy, created to protect the innocent from those creatures that inhabit the shadows and the night." In Bladed Cross, it is revealed that Derek Emrys Rayne is a descendant of Myrrdin Emrys, "Merlin." One version of the Rayne "Sight" may derive from Merlins bloodline.

In 911 we discover that after the destruction of Camelot and the Round Table, Merlin created a new, secret partner to the Legacy - the Circle of the Phoenix - a blind trust which was to silently protect, serve, and fund the Legacy.

Michael, the Archangel - "Who is like God?" is the meaning of his name. Michael was the only Ethnarch, or Watcher, who did not fall during Lucifers rebellion against God. A seraphim, he is the top-ranking archangel, the general of Gods heavenly armies. It is he who conducts souls to the other side and who wields the sword at the Last Judgement. He has a special power to purify evil places, which is why churches dedicated to him are often built on previously pagan sites and on hills, such as Glastonbury Tor, which in the Middle Ages were thought to be inhabited by devils or spirits. Michaels symbol is the sword... held upright as the Sword of Truth... or flaming as the fiery trial or the defeat of evil. He, rather than St. George, was the original conqueror of the dragon. Because, St. Michaels image, wielding his sword with the dragon underfoot, dominates the reredos at Mission Dolores, the archangel was introduced into the Merlynns Maze world as a significant figure. His sword is a twin of the Rayne sword. He is the patron saint of the Legacy, and perhaps even Derek Raynes guardian angel, though he may share that duty with sweet St. Cecilia, the patroness of musicians. Michael figures heavily in Bladed Cross, where he is far from a sympathetic creature. He is above all a warrior angel.

Millard, Sir James Loxley - President/Chairman of the Ruling Council in the Merlynns Maze world. He first made his appearance in The Lord Is My Shepherd, when he was prepared to sanction the use of drugs on Derek to unblock his memory of horrific events. Also briefly mentioned in the Heavenly Choir, he has a video-link role in New Beginnings... Ancient Endings and a major role in 911.

Mr. MIM - The nickname that Carlton West bestows upon his victim, Derek Rayne in New Beginnings... Ancient Endings. In Hollywood, it is common to give projects an abbreviated name, made up of the initials of the title. Poltergeist: the Legacy, for example, becomes PTL. MIM is the abbreviation for West's next project, a remake of the Man in the Iron Mask.

Moreau, Alexandra "Alex"

Moreau, Rose (Esther Rolle/Virginia Capers) - Alex's grandmother, who raised her. We first meet her at her home in rural Louisiana in S3's La Belle Dame Sans Merci. A potent psychic, she is a practitioner of Vodun, commonly called Voodoo, but it is good magic. In the "canon" world of PTL, she dies from an attack by the evil Voodoo priest, Daniel Uwara, in S4's The Possession.

In our world, Rose visits Derek during his coma in Death Watch, senses that his gros bon ange has gone "a travelin'," and returns to Louisiana to seek a cure from the spirit ancestors. She does not die.

Mrs. Darkside (Fionnula Flanagan) - A grandmotherly demon who appeared in PTL's S3 episode, Darkside, and S4 episodes, the Traitor and Double Cross... a story arc in which she turns Alex against Derek and brings Reed Horton back to corporeal existence.

She is mentioned only briefly in the Merlynn's Maze story Death Watch.

Nadine - Nadine Bronsky, one of the teenaged runaways who becomes a resident of Derek's Hollywood halfway house in New Beginnings... Ancient Endings.

the Naga - The original "ids", which co-inhabited Carlton West in New Beginnings... Ancient Endings. "The Naga" was an Indian priest who was devoted to the service of his god, who was a Naga. As with the she-ogre goddess, Kali, a cult had formed around this particular Naga. Human sacrifice was practiced. Sir John Kincaid, as Calcutta's precept, was instrumental in suppressing the cult and killing the priest, who found a way to continue to live on through his "id". His first victim-recruit was Sir John himself.

Nelson - A very nasty customer, who was former mujahideen fighter. In 911, he is an ally of al-Quaida, whom Ginge dubs him "Nelson" because of his one eye (in honor of Lord Nelson).

Rahim - Rahim, a smuggler, is a member of the K'om tribe of the Nuristan province of Afghanistan. He serves as Derek's guide to the Ro'm Valley in 911.

Rayne, Barbara (Martha Henry) - Widow of Winston Rayne and mother of Derek Rayne and Sr. Ingrid Rayne. Not much is revealed about her in the series. She only appeared in the S2 episode, Ransom, in which she seemed to have a cordial relationship with William Sloan and a proper, if not strained, one with her son.

In "our" world, as revealed in A SEAL's Legacy, part 61 and in the Rayne Family History, she is the offspring of old Dutch nobility and the daughter of the Legacy precept in Amsterdam. As a young woman of about twenty, she worked with the Dutch underground to assist downed Allied flyers to escape the Nazis. One such flyer was Winston Rayne, whom she married in Rayne, England following the end of the war.

Barbara was lonely and unhappy on Angel Island and ultimately fled with her two "gifted" children when the forces in the House and on the Island became a threat to Derek and Ingrid. She returned to Amsterdam, where she still lives on a canal at Herengracht 166, a house which her family has owned since the 1600s. In the Merlynn's Maze world she appears at the ends of Chipote, Nairobi, Al-Kufrah, and Death Watch as well as in briefly in Bladed Cross, A SEAL's Legacy, He Restoreth My Soul, and Ruminations I.

Rayne, Christina

Rayne, Derek

Rayne, Evan

Rayne, Sr. Ingrid (Camille Mitchell) - Ingrid is the elder sister of Derek Rayne. In the series" the relationship seems to be close, but with some bumps that remained a mystery. She is a Catholic nun in a semi-reclusive order, which retained the old-fashioned habit. Her convent is in the California wine country near Napa or Sonoma. Like her brother she, Ingrid seems to have the "Sight."

Ingrid first appeared in PTL's S1 episode, Revelations. She reappeared in S2's Lives in the Balance and Ransom. Her last appearance was in S3's the Covenant

In the Merlynn's Maze world, Ingrid plays significant roles in Bladed Cross and Death Watch. In both stories she returns to Angel Island to nurse Derek through major health crises. She is also appears at the end of Chipote and in Ruminations I. In New Beginnings... Ancient Endings, she again is granted permission to leave the convent in order to help Derek get the hostel on its feet, and, in the course of events, comes close to losing her faith.

Rayne, Winston

"Red" aka Madonna - One of the street kids who becomes a resident of Derek's Hollywood halfway house in New Beginnings... Ancient Endings.

Reston, Dr. Ernst - A Legacy scientist involved in time slip research at Oxford in the mid-1970s. He believed that if a psi-talented person could attain the proper mental state the mind could see into the past. To this end he urged his test subjects, all "gifted," young Legacy members, to take an assortment of drug cocktails. Ultimately, he and all the survivors, ended up in as inmates in an asylum called Wells Ward. The one exception was Derek Rayne, who still has a bed reserved for him.

Roberts - Derek's chauffeur in the Merlynn's Maze world.

Ross, Nanny - A young Scottish woman who was Derek and Ingrid's nanny during their few years on Angel Island. Later in life, because of her association with the Rayne children, she got her Ph.D. in child psychology and became affiliated with the Legacy's Honolulu House. As Dr. Lawrence, Nanny Ross became the Legacy's expert on the poltergeist phenomenon and the natural psychic abilities of children. She is mentioned in Nairobi, A SEAL's Legacy, Al-Kufrah, and Death Watch, and appears as Dr. Lawrence at Derek's funeral service in Bladed Cross.

Royce, Det. David (Garwin Sanford) - Det. Royce was introduced in the final season. He seemed to have replaced Dereks friend, Det. Frank Carmack. He appeared in Shes Got the Devil in Her Heart, where he seemed attracted to Rachel and received his first lessons in the paranormal, and Body and Soul, where he assisted Alex in her search for a missing Derek.

In the Merlynns Maze world, he appears in Ruminations I & II & New Beginnings... Ancient Endings. In "our" world, he and Rachel are pursuing their relationship, while Derek contemplates recruiting him.

St. Angelo, Cecily - The assistant organist at St. Sepulchre's Without Newgate in London. In Bladed Cross, Derek helps her with a difficult musical phrase and in return she gives him a very special gift. I leave it to the reader to decide her true identity.

Sammael - "Poison," the Angel of Death, Prince of the Seven Hells. The villain of Bladed Cross, who assumes semi-mortal form to carry out a plot to cause the downfall of the Legacy. Some philosophies consider him to be one of the Fallen Watchers, while others consider him to be one of Satan's many identities.

Generally he is believed to be the direct counterpart of the Archangel Michael and, like him, was once a seraphim and the ethnarch appointed to watch over the Roman Empire. It was Sammael, while in serpent form, who tempted Eve. When he unites with his bride, Isheth, the two of them become one in the form of the Beast, "Chioa." Thus the three are one, the Infernal Trinity.

San Perdamo, Fernando - the Legacy's Ruling Precept in 1983 during Al-Kufrah. He is a European academic, probably Spanish. He dies sometime between May 1983 and November 1983, by which time he has been replaced by Maxim Julian.

Sloan, Patricia "Patty" (Paty Lombard) - William Sloan's wife. She also seems to be a close friend of Derek's. She appears only in PTL's S2 episode, Let Sleeping Demon's Lie, but is mentioned in others. She appears several times in the Merlynn's Maze world, where she is the mother of two daughters. In both worlds, the Sloans have a good, strong marriage... at times it seems like the only one in the whole of the Legacy.

Sloan, William

Smith, James - A principle character in Bladed Cross. A management and financial whiz, he begins as Max Julian's executive assistant, but is loaned to the San Francisco Legacy House to assist a shaken, overwhelmed William Sloan, while Derek Rayne is missing. He later assumes the role of prosecutor at Derek's trial.

Spencer, Clare (Susan Hogan) - A PTL canon character who appeared in S1's season finale Traitor Among Us , in which she was the Precept of the Hong Kong House, and one of Derek's former lovers.

She later appears in the Merlynn's Maze world as Ruling Precept in 911.

Summers, Alicia - Alicia is a PTL character who never really appears, except by photograph, in the series nor in Merlynns Maze. In the S1 episode, Twelfth Cave, we learn that she had been engaged to Dereks friend, Randolph Hitchcock. In the course of a mission in Egypt, which was apparently Dereks first as expedition leader, she was killed. There is the impression given that she may have been in love with Derek, and he with her, but nothing is ever made clear.

Tanit - The villainess of Al-Kufrah. Also known as Tanith, she was the Carthaginian goddess who was their variation of the Middle Eastern Astarte and Ishtar. Little is known of the Carthaginian religion, but it is believed that there was human sacrifice, including infant sacrifice.

Taylor, Mark - In the Merlynn's Maze world, a former LAPD officer who is the head of security at the Los Angeles Legacy House. He appears in Ma?i.coh: the Skinwalker, A Killing Time, and New Beginnings... Ancient Endings.

Thomas, Fr. Joseph - A character only in Merlynns Maze. In Ruminations I, due to the murder of Franklin Cross by Reed Horton in S4's Traitor, Fr. Thomas served as the Legacys Chief Investigator into the destruction of the San Francisco House and the death of Derek Rayne. He is a member of the Rosicrucian Order and an authority on cults, serial killers, and mass murderers.

He also appears in New Beginnings... Ancient Endings and 911, which are a different timeline than Ruminations I, therefore, he is something of a different man... suffering from cancer, he has aged rapidly. However, he is still the Legacy's authority on cults, serial killers, and mass murderers.

Tom - The pilot of Derek's jet in the Merlynn's Maze world.

Torrance, Megan (Tamara Gorski) - In the "canon" version of PTL, Megan was a sassy "print journalist" with whom Derek Rayne developed a romantic relationship in S4. She debuted in Song of the Raven and carried on through Bird of Prey and Wishful Thinking. Finally, in Body and Soul, she was killed by a car bomb set by the Darkside Lazarus, Reed Horton.

In our world, Megan is a former reporter, who turned to nursing after having been a caretaker for her invalid mother. Megan the Nurse specializes in care of the comatose and becomes Derek's private nurse in Death Watch. She survives in our world and takes a job which Derek finds for her near her mother's home.

"Toya" - LaToya Baker, one of the teenaged runaways who becomes a resident of Derek's Hollywood halfway house in New Beginnings... Ancient Endings. It is her brutal death that draws Derek into his undercover investigation at White Magic.

Tremayne, Sir Edmund (Philip Granger) - Knight of the British Empire, Ruling Precept of the Legacy. In 1993, he appears as Ruling Precept in A SEAL's Legacy, where he interferes with Derek's romantic escapade with Maggie Hamilton and questions the manner in which Derek maneuvers Nick Boyle into the Legacy.

In Ruminations I, Nick speculates that Derek had a double motive for anonymously choreographing his own trial for treason in Traitor Among Us , S1's season finale and Sir Edmund's only appearance. Derek's first goal was to ferret out the vampire precept, Charles Banyon, but a second, ulterior motive might have been to unseat Sir Edmund and orchestrate the succession of William Sloan as Ruling Precept.

Van der Linden, Willem - A cousin on Derek's mother's side. He is an international financier, who serves as CFO of the Luna Foundation until 2001.

Von Suhlberg, Gen. Dr. Otto - One of the "ids", which co-inhabited Carlton West in New Beginnings... Ancient Endings. Von Suhlberg was a sadistic Nazi general and scientist who committed heinous experimentation on concentration camp victims.

Walker, Julia

Watson, Trevor - A sound engineer, who works on the cable series White Magic in New Beginnings... Ancient Endings. He becomes a victim of the "ids".

the Watchers - Sometimes equated with the Ethnarchs, seventy angels, closest to the Heavenly throne, to whom God gave the task of watching over the various nations of man... Sammael was the Ethnarch of Rome, Michael was the Ethnarch of Israel. In one version they became prideful and rebelled at God's order that the "Sons of Fire," the angels, must serve the "Sons of Clay," mankind. In another version they became too attached to their respective nations. In either case, all the Watchers, save Michael, fell.

West, Carlton - The producer/writer/director of the cable soap White Magic in New Beginnings... Ancient Endings. Brutalized, while at boarding school, he becomes a monster who houses the evil ids. He becomes the greatest challenge Derek Rayne ever faces to his life, health, and sanity.

Williams, Jasmine - An undercover police officer in New Beginnings... Ancient Endings. To try to pin a series of murders on Derek Rayne, she poses as a young prostitute named Jasmine DeLuth, who seeks shelter in the New Beginnings hostel. She ends up a victim of the "ids".

Witherspoon, Jane (Elizabeth Shepherd) - Precept of the Boston House and mentor to Kristin Adams. She is first mentioned in PTL's S3 episode the Enlightened One, and later appeared in S3's The Traitor and Double Cross, where we learn that she is a very old friend of Derek's. In S4's Unholy Congress she and her team, along with Kristin's brother, Ethan, are murdered by Reed Horton.

She only briefly appears in the Merlynns Maze world in Death Watch, when Unholy Congress is reprised.

Xipe Totec - A Mesoamerican god of spring and rebirth, called "the Flayed One," who was adopted from earlier cultures by the Aztec. As a penance, his priests would wear the flayed skin of sacrificial victims until it rotted from their bodies. In He Restoreth My Soul, it is to him that Kankin owes allegiance.

Yusuf - A young man of the R'om tribe, who accompanies Derek Rayne on his mission into Afghanistan in 911.
