Derek Emrys Rayne
is basically the same person as Dr. Derek Rayne of Poltergeist: the Legacy. We have expanded on his background and attempted to resolve a few continuity problems, but have striven not to contradict the series. It is only after PTL's Season 3 that the major deviation occurs, but even then S4 is neither ignored nor negated.

A world and a set of characters simply kept growing.

We prefer not to use the term "AU" or "Alternate Universe," but rather
Parallel Dimension.
As Derek Emrys Rayne lies in a coma, his mind joins with that of Derek of the S4 world and thus, he emotionally and intellectually experiences all of S4. Together, occupying one body, Derek & his "twin-self" stave off the Apocalypse. Afterwards, the disruption to the space/time continuum caused by the Portal's demise and Derek's transport back to his own body, brings about change in his own world as well.

The story, A Killing Time, which occurs some months after the end of S3, is the dividing point. The Derek of S4 never drops into a coma and continues through S4 into Ruminations I & II, while the Derek of the Time Chronicles lies comatose for some eight months. Death Watch spans & interconnects both universes. Upon awakening in his own world, where the San Francisco Legacy House still stands strong above its own Portal, "our" Derek experiences Interlude, Fortune's Wheel and New Beginnings... Ancient Endings.

The descriptives, "our world" and "the world of Merlynn's Maze", refer to additions and variations that pertain to the stories at this website within the Chronicles of Derek Emrys Rayne, plus Ruminations I & II.

"Canon" indicates those elements established or hinted at in the series.
