When this page
of brand names was developed in 1997, there were many fewer varieties
of ovarian therapy (ERT/HRT) and no comprehensive listings so I collected
the information below the double line. This has some later additions and
what is there is correct but as a list it is out of date and incomplete.
For basic information about types of OHT, go to Which OHT? Important: Before taking any drug, read the patient information sheet which should have been supplied with it. If you want specific information about a brand name drug, the best thing to do is to consult http://rxlist.com and search on the brand name. Information specific to the UK can be accessed through the British National Formulary which requires free registration. Once registered, you can find info about oestrogens in section 6.4.1.1 and about progestogens at 6.4.1.2 Information on oestrogens specific to Australia can be found with some difficulty through http://healthanswers.telstra.com/drugdata/search.asp?SearchLetter=1search_string=O Just look at all entires beginning with oestr. For progestagens, you will have to have the brand name and search from the base page at http://healthanswers.telstra.com/drugdata/ To find details (including other brand names) of these commonly used agents:
Incomplete list of BRAND NAMES of ovarian hormones Note that oral dosages are much higher than transdermal ones due to the "first-pass effect" of processing by the liver. This greatly reduces the amount available for use and means that direct comparisons of strengths cannot be made. The most commonly prescribed

MIAMI, FL --
Aug. 10, 1998 -- The United States Food and Drug Administration has approved
Rhone-Poulenc Rorer Pharmaceuticals Inc.’s CombiPatch(TM) (estradiol/norethindone
acetate), the first hormone replacement therapy (HRT) in the U.S. to
deliver a continuous dose of both estrogen and progestogen transdermally
via a single patch.
CombiPatch delivers the progestin norethindrone acetate (NETA) and the estrogen 17 beta-estradiol through a matrix patch technology that releases the two hormones from the patch's adhesive. |
