After visiting family in Missouri, we headed through Illinois and spent a night at Ramsey State Park. Next we made our way to Hartland, Wisconsin, and spent the week of the 4th of July on Beaver Lake. Then, on the advice of Meghan`s Uncle Steve, we made an impromptu decision to canoe in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in Northern Minnesota. Following a fabulous trip there, we explored the North Shore of Lake Superior and got searched at the Canadian Border (definately some profiling thing going on there). Through Thunder Bay and around Lake Superior, we stopped, stayed, and explored some amazing Provencial Parks in Ontario including Sleeping Giant, Obatanga, and Lake Superior. Jumping down into Michigan, we backpacked North Manitou Island. On the ferry, we met Mark and Anne Pechnovik from Goshen, IN. They knew all the best kept secrets to the island, so we co-opted their trip and made them hang out with us. The island was really beautiful, yet our new friendships with Mark and Anne stand out as a real high point to this continuing trek. Our next stop reunited us with John and Karen Moglia of Ada, MI. They had moved from Winter Park, CO a few years back so John could take a cool job as an art teacher. With their son Brendan and Caylyn leading the way, we hung out on two Lake Michigan beaches over a long weekend. Late July found us resting in a cool Québec mountain town, Val David. In between Michigan and the Laurentines (where Val David rests), we went urban - navigating Toronto and Montreal over four days while staying in hostels of distinct charachter. We could have stayed in Val David forever, really it's that nice, and learned French as a bonus. But other adventures beckoned and soon we made our way up to Québec City. As we look at the month ahead, we decided to experience something new, something fresh, a little on the wild side. We are not sure what, but we think we will find it, further North........
