| Defense is the best offense. My first sensei used to tell me that the best move to avoid a physical confrontation was to simply turn around and RUN. Though of course, that isn't always possible. Self-defense is based on the simple forms. Repetition of the most common moves is the basis of most karate practice sessions. In more traditional dojos this is called kihon or basics. This is where you work on speed and learn new moves or try out new techniques. |
