About Us...
The Story of Us
There's an old saying that goes something like this: "There are three sides to every story; his side, her side, and the truth."  We are presenting you with our versions of how we came to this point.  One of us is a pathological liar, the other exaggerates everything beyond recognition (guess which is which).  We both agree on one fact.  We met in August of 1996 at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.

His Story:
Because I can be overly verbal, I am forced to tell our history in bullet format in order to accommodate the space. Heres our story as I know it.

August 1996: At the Penn Med New Student Orientation, I see a woman across the room dressed in tight, hoochy shorts, sporting a large floral tattoo on her left thigh. I think two things:
What kind of flower is that?
Thats the woman that Im going to marry.
An odd, unusual thought that was quickly suppressed. We met unceremoniously three days later outside a lecture hall.
Winter 1997:  As a night owl, I would study late night at school to avoid disruption. As a fellow night owl, Nicole would frequently be at school studying. We began to study together, taking breaks in between subjects to talk about family and friends.
Spring 1997: By now it became clear that Nicole and I were becoming closer. We both liked to laugh. More importantly, we both liked to laugh at other people. Fifteen minute breaks became hour talks as we both dealt with ending long-term relationships. As school came to an end, I became aware that I have feelings for her, but I was unsure how to move forward. I played it safe.
Summer 1997: Schools out. Nicole goes to Belgium for a summer research job. I stay in Philly working on a community service project.  We maintain connections through email. When a co-worker begins to make romantic advances on me, I tell Nicole how obtuse I am to female intentions. She agrees, and for some reason I respond with a rant about my feelings for her, her feelings for me, and the state of our relationship. Nicole replies with a single line email: I WASNT TALKING ABOUT US.
August 1997: Nik returns, and because of the email, things are a little awkward between us. She becomes distant, and I mark the romance as a loss. We go to see the movie Money Talks with Chris Tucker, a movie snubbed by the Oscars. The only male with eight women, a seat is saved next to Nik. I read nothing into it.
September 5, 1997: I am serving Giordanos deep dish pizza to a group of friends. After everyone leaves, Nik sticks around. We talk through the night. A though enters my head:
This girl may really like me. If shes still here by 1:30, Im going to make a move.
1:30 arrives, and I fail to develop a plan over the last half-hour so I say the only thing that comes to mind:
For the last half-hour, Ive been trying to figure out how to kiss you.
I know. Im still ashamed, but it worked so back off. And dont steal my line.
The rest is history- or at least, OURstory.
Her Story:
My first memory of David is of him waking me up from a power nap I was taking in-between classes. [
I would never sleep during class.]  After giving him the look of death, I promptly went back to sleep and forgot all about him. Fast-forward several months. Somehow, we end up as study partners. Actually, its a small group of students who cant (wont) get any work done during the day, but go into hyper drive at night. Its amazing the conversations you have at 2:30am, when youre too tired to lie. So we talked about our families, friends, and the significant others we were in the process of breaking up with.

In June, I left for 8 weeks in Europe, not really knowing what would happen while I was away (after all, we werent together) and he told me his ex-girlfriend would be staying with him until she found a sublet for the summer. Not very encouraging. Surprisingly, David emailed me almost every day that I was gone. Towards the end of the summer, he sent me an email about someone he thought was interested in him. I responded with a comment about being oblivious when it comes to women. He then sent me a manifesto pronouncing his feelings for me and how I felt about him, etc. After I gently explained that I was joking with him and really didnt mean anything serious by it, things were a bit awkward between us. After awhile, we just acted as if it never happened.

I was very busy during the first several days after my return to Philly, so I only saw David in passing. On September 5th, he lured me to his apartment with promises of real Chicago-style pizza. After suffering through his favorite movie and waiting for him to make a move, I decided it was time to go home. Then he kissed me. FINALLY!!  The rest is history.

So thats it. Were getting married on September 1 because it will be almost exactly 5 years after our first kiss. Were going to start trying to get pregnant a few months before the wedding. Everyone knows its not a wedding unless theres a shotgun involved. (Dad, Im just kidding please put the gun away. Could someone revive my Mom? I felt her swoon.)
