the quality, Hong Kong Telecom has the best quality as it has been in the market
for such a long time and it used to maintain a good quality image. Hutchison
share the same weakness with New T&T and New World in this area. Their
networks are not stabilized, so the quality is not good enough. It is a great
weakness of Hutchison. Although IDD is not the main area of development of
Hutchison, it is important for the company to improve in this area so as to
maintain competitive in the market.
In
the coverage of the network, Hong Kong Telecom covers more than 230 countries in
the world, it has the highest coverage in the market. Hutchison, same as New
T&T, covers over 220 countries. Although Hutchison’s coverage is less than
Hong Kong Telecom, it is more than CTI who covers about 220 countries and New
World who covers only over 200 countries. That is, coverage isn’t the strength
nor the weakness of Hutchison.
Waiting
time for phone calling. Hong Kong Telecom has the shortest waiting time in phone
calling, Hutchison and the other competitors have a relative longer waiting
time. It is due to the quality of the network. As mentioned above, Hong Kong
Telecom has the best network so have a better quality
and also a shorter waiting time, it is what Hutchison should improve.
Value-added
service is also an important thing to attract customers. However, all the
companies in the IDD market do not do very well in this area. Hutchison is also
very weak in this part. Relatively, Hong Kong Telecom is doing better in this
area as it has some hotline service for the customers to check phone lines and
country code numbers. Value-added service is a difficult area in the IDD market,
however, it is also an opportunity for Hutchison.
If
a company has more outlets, it is more convenience for the customers to reach
its service. Although many IDD applications can be processed though the phone
lines, more outlets can also act as a promotion tool and show the big size of
the company. Hutchison, Hong Kong Telecom and New World have many outlets, as
they also have other telecom business. But New T&T and CTI do not have.
Because New T&T’s main customer is business user and CTI have use mobile
counters instead of fixed outlets. Sufficient outlets of Hutchison are good for
its promotion.
For
the variety of service provided by the company, it can give a more familiar
image to the customers and the performance in other products or services
provided can also affect the image of the image of the company. In this area,
Hutchison, New World and Hong Kong Telecom provided a variety of services such
as mobile phone and internet service. Also, variety service can be used together
with IDD. Such as can use IDD in the mobile phone, so that can increase the
usage of IDD service. It is also an opportunity for Hutchison to sell IDD in
bundling.
