The Purpose of This Page While my son, Matthew, is away at Basic Training and Advanced Individual Traning he has given me the task of keeping his friends and family updated as to how he is doing. As a nice gesture to his friends he created these pages so that plenty of people could easily get the information. At his request his only correspondance with the outside world will be through the letters he writes home, the letters that I write him, and the rare phone call. If you would like to write him a message you can either e-mail him at [email protected] or myself at [email protected] and I will include it in the next letter I write him. Since I will be reading these, you may want to refrain from including anything that will embaress either of us.

A Bit About Matthew Matthew is an 18 year old Nevada native who just recently graduated from high school in the academic top twenty. He was very involved in sports, academics, music, and his school's JROTC program. In his rare bits of free time you can usually find him reading a book, mountain biking, fiddling around on a computer, or at a Reno Youth Philharmonic practice where he is the lead trumpeter.

Matthew's Military Career Matthew graduated as a Cadet Lieutenant Colonel in his school's Army Junior Reserves Officers Training Corps program. He was his Battalion's Adjustant and Personnel Officer and commander of several specialty teams. He earned many awards and medals including the Superior Cadet Decoration, Most Dedicated Cadet, the Becker Trophy, the Kirkland Leadership Trophy, and the Military Order of World Wars Award of Merit. Because of his excellent work in the JROTC program he was able to enlist in the Nevada Army National Guard as an E3, or a Private First Class. His MOS is 91-Bravo, or to put it simply; he is a medic. With the National Guard he serves one weekend a month and two weeks a year making him a 'citizen soldier'. He is doing Basic Training at Fort Knox in Kentucky and will do AIT dealing specifically with his MOS at Fort Sam Houston Texas. He will be gone roughly 17 weeks, and we expect it to be nothing short of hell.
