UPDATES
09 August 2001
Thursday

I appologize for the long delay since updates.  However, there was good reason, I had nothing to update.  Letters three and four have arrived.  The only thing I have to update here is that Matthew should graduate from AIT on 2 November 2001.  If that is the case, he will be home by the 4th.

Graduation from Basic Training will be on 17 September 2001.  Prior to this he will have a family day and a 48 hour pass.  After that he is off to Texas for more fun.

Thursday (part two)

Matthew's latest letter arrived today.  Sadly, it was bearing bad news.  From what I read in the letter it seems as though his health has taken a dramatic turn for the worse.  I know my son isn't one to quit, nor complain, so I can only imagine how horrible it must actually be for him.  If he does receive a medical discharge he would fly home as soon as he accepted it in a C-130 military aircraft.

I got a short telephone call from Matthew today.  He sounded much happier than he has in the past.  He isn't receiving a medical discharge, but had to switch companies and won't be arriving home until the end of November.

Health wise he is doing much better.  He is still experiencing some difficulty breathing in extreme circumstances but is now taking medication for it.  He asked that I tell you all "Hello, and to please write if you get a minute."

Wednesday

Again I appologize for the long delay since updates, but I haven't known anymore than any of you.  We have mostly been anxiously waiting for news from Matthew since the attacks on 9 September 2001.  Fortunately he is doing alright.  I will be attending his graduation on Friday, so I am flying out tomorrow.  I will be away from the computer until I am back, but Bryna will be around to update the page and field any questions.

Matthew graduated from Fort Knox and Basic Training last Friday.  Since then he has moved on to Ft. Sam Houston Texas and Advanced Individual Training.  He is still expected home some time in late November.
