After been dropped off in the halls room by my parents on the morning of September 19th 1999 I felt rough as ten bears! It was about half eleven, the morning after my 19th Birthday, it was dark, cold, I didn't have a clue where I was and it was raining like everybody told me it would in Manchester. After having a short kip I had a shower and started to unpack. After several hours I thought I'd check out the rest of the people on my corridor and get to know my future buddies. It soon however became very apparant that with one noticeable exception there was nobody else that had english as their first language.
It is safe to say that my introduction to University life could have been a whole lot better. I was pretty lonely and came very close to forgetting the whole thing and returning to what I knew back in Birmingham. I gave myself until christmas. I am now very grateful for the fact that I did stick it out because I would not have met a whole bunch of cool people. I stumbled upon this crazy group of boys and girls whilst partaking in a pool competition in the Grot. From there I never really looked back.
We had a wicked 1st year together whether we were playing corridor cricket, dancing on tables in McNally's or getting drunk at different bars in town.
I introduced them to the importance of having a curry at 3am, and showed them how to Brummy dance at a popular student night ever Tuesday and generally pleaded with each of them to be my friend. And they were!
