Serendipity Jess (1997-1999)

Jess’ story is one of abandonment, a new beginning and finally overwhelming sadness.  Unfortunately I still cannot shed the feelings of guilt that I have over her loss.  I rescued Jess from a local SPCA shelter when she was about 10 weeks old.  Despite already having a three month old puppy in the house at that time, I could not leave this beautiful little Border Collie in the shelter for one day longer.  She was on antibiotics and was recovering from injuries to her head and right ear.  Her recovery once I got her home was remarkable.  Sam and Jess formed an amazing bond over the year and a half that they were together and were inseparable.  Jess was very much a free spirit, her own boss, a dog that enjoyed every second of life whether it be chasing Bailey the family rabbit or lying in front of the wood stove on a cold winters night.  No matter what she was doing she was content and her affection for the family was undeniable.  The loss of Jess in a tragic accident is a loss that I doubt I shall ever really overcome.  Her life was all too short but it will be in her memory that I will eventually establish a “Border Collie Rescue” organization in the Fredericton area; a promise I will keep with myself.
