The dog that started it all....
This was the dog that started it all for me and despite our parting some six years ago now there is seldom a day that goes by that I do not reflect on our time together. He was truly a remarkable animal, one that engraved an indelible impression in my heart, a real ambassador for his breed. He was in every respect a devoted and faithful friend until his very last breath. I honestly consider our time together to have been my privilege, and during those eighteen years I watched him grow through puppy hood into adolescence and finally old age. Ben was a very focused and intense dog, a natural herder but as a family pet he was just as happy to be doing something that he sensed pleased us. He was quick of mind, very social and highly energetic. Unbelievably, all traits he took with him to his grave. He lived a long fulfilling and healthy life and for that I am indeed grateful. He is and will continue to be a very hard act to follow.
