He said, She said, They said... We say...

He said....
"It's called a controlled dumpsite," >>> We say...What does the DENR has to say?
MMDA: Recycling is not viable
"The composts are just rotting"
>>> We say...Composts are meant to rot.

She said...
"An allied activity of this project is soil recycling. Recycled soil are being used as filling materials for the city’s low-lying areas. While other cities and municipalities in Metro Manila are pre-occupied with recycling waste. In Marikina we are recycling soil. " From MCF's STATE OF THE CITY ADDRESS - 2002 >>> We say...Hmmm...Recycling soil...hmmm.

Marikina Mayor Ma. Lourdes Fernando said yesterday that the operation of the dumpsite is legal and part of the local government’s program to achieve an "organized and healthy city."
>>> We say...Read the qoutes below.

She stressed the site in question was "a controlled dumpsite." >>> We say...How can an open dumpsite be a controlled dumpsite?

"We can put the garbage in Montalban, but we want to keep it within our area because ayaw naman naming mamerwisyo," >>> We say...Kami po, mga kababayan mo sa Marikina, matagal nang residente ng Marikina, residenteng nagbabayad ng buwis, residenteng hindi squatters, ang napeperwisyo.

They said...

Dolora N. Nepomuceno, LLDA assistant general manager

"According to our records, we have not received any application from them," LLDA assistant general manager Dolora N. Nepomuceno >>> We say...No application means, no permit, no permit means illegal. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to know the difference between legal and illegal.

“I want to inform the mayor that based on records, the city government has not applied for a clearance and permits,” Nepomuceno said. >>> We say...Again, No clearance...illegal...No permits...illegal.

“The result of water testing will show the imminent danger posed by the dump on the river and the water supply of residents in the area. The leachate from the dump has big impact on the river and the water supply,” Nepomuceno explained.

Letter to Mr. Wayne Lauzon

Albert Magalang, NSWMC executive director
"is not suitable for garbage disposal."

Esther Perez de Tagle

"I thought he was joking...it's simply stupid, really crazy," said Esther Perez de Tagle, founder of the Concerned Citizens Against Pollution. This was how environmental groups described Metro Manila Development Authority chairman Bayani Fernando's suggestion to flush down the toilet biodegradable wastes.

"Why is Bayani Fernando insisting on violating the law?..."It's mandated by law that there should be a materials recovery facility (MRF) in every barangay. If (Bayani is) going to go ahead with (the waste facility project), we will have to file a suit."

She also criticized Fernando for saying that the residents' fears are unfounded.

"It's not unfounded," Perez de Tagle said. "There are information and pictures on the Internet (of how unsanitary garbage facilities can be). There's even one website of a Marikina dumpsite." >>> We say...This is the website.

Von Hernandez, Greenpeace Philippines

"There's no reason why the illegal dumpsite should not be closed," Hernandez said.

Anita Paway

"The operation of the dumpsite is illegal because of the LLDA order and the expansion of the site," Anita Paway, Samahan Kapatiran ng Doña Petra >>> We say...Closure order and expansion of the dumpsite.

QC homeowners

"Hindi ko nga akalain na may dump diyan... only this year, until we started to smell the stench kasi ang lakas talaga ng amoy," lawyer Jose Sison

"Malinis nga ang paligid nila (Marikina) pero napeperwisyo naman ang mga nearby cities," Sison said.
>>> We say...Kitams, pati ang amoy umaabot sa kabilang bayan.
