SPOTLIGHT ON PLANTS

Coreopsis Verticillata

Faith is my personal home garden.  The tomatoes and herbs grown here are for my personal consumption..  I have been growing outside my apartment for three years now and absolutely love this journey.  I have loved it so much that I have now a vision.  With the help of a friend that I met a little over a year ago, that vision has been created and nurtured in my brain.  Right now I enjoy my little garden and in the future new things are on the horizon. Why should I share a gift and talent only at home?

The vision:  I have a huge amount of friends I accumulated in the past year that have become like family to me.  They have helped me out so much that I feel it's time to give back.  This includes a few people that are not so recent in the helping department.  One group spans for a life-time.  I want to share more.  More of myself and time.  In the past three years, gardening has been great therapy for me, it has gotten me out of my house and out of a certain comfort zone: the life of a hermit.  I need to get out of this way of life as my daughter who was born in 2007 is growing and the biggest socialite that I know in my family.  For this reason and for the reason of showing her a new way and that all things are possible, a great drive and need to move forward with my vision is in order.

One of those individuals that have come into my path in life this past year has generously given me a span of land to put a larger personal garden on.  This allows me to grow more, and hence, I'll have more stored for winter as well, and give others the gift of health through providing some fresh vegetables to them.  With the growing price of food, and, quite honestly the lower quality of the bulk that is supplied in the stores, I've found it disturbing  and extremely hard to eat healthy on a low budget.  I, myself, am on SNAP benefits, it's all but impossible to allocate that help on a weekly basis without having to add money to the mix.  I have friends and family that make just over the qualification levels for any help from SNAP or other benefits for that matter.  Those friends have helped me where they can.  Quite honestly, even those who make pretty good incomes could benefit from homegrown food as well to save money.

I find that one could earn a billion times more than I, and still, it's hard to make ends meet.  Business owners, for instance, everyone think that they are rich and can afford things but just are cheap when they do not give more.  In reality, even the business owner today is not his own boss.  He's a servant to many.  He is answerable to those who provide funding to the business;  who establish rules and regulations both on state and federal levels; and a servant to the community that the services the business provides to.   Most of the money that is coming forth from a business, if it's done right, goes back into the business.  Profits are nice.  With all the work a business owner puts into their business, if they make a triple digit annual income GOD BLESS THEM.  Still, honestly, the personal income goes into the general costs of living.  They too are subject to general housing costs, more so than those who rent, clothing, transportation, etc..  Giving back to two of the men who have helped me and continue to do so by providing weekly produce to them will help them to be able to eat a little healthier and it will make my heart sing because I'm giving back in a way that promotes their health and the health of their families.

With this said, that garden is way bigger than the little one I have.  I have the help of a few others that will help in rain barrels and installation, the creation of compost bins and piles, weeding, and many more of the chores that will go into this.   For me, it's a labor of love.

The vision is broadened.  Right now I'm looking into getting a small family farming business started.    The preliminaries have begun to include what is allowed, what isn't allowed, where how why etc.  I have again found a place that is willing to help me out there too.  That though isn't going to start right away.   The vegetables, again, grown there will be for personal consumption until I announce that business.  I believe in doing it right the first time and I"m in this for the health benefits above all for the consumer.  I've found videos, compliances to be met, how to make a business plan is right up there as well.

There is a distance, not very far I will need to travel from my house to the other land plots.  Right now I'm looking to invest some money into an electric bike and a hauling trailer I can hook up to the bike to get around with my tools.   The distance isn't so great that I can't get away with this kind of transport vehicle.  My GOFUNDME me account only goes towards the gardening/business end of my life.  There is no money going for personal use.  There are great hopes that can get this off the ground.  I just need a little extra help to do it.

At the current time, I am on crutches and am out of work at my three day a week job.  It's imperative that I get the vegetables planted if I want to eat well in the weeks to come.  I can sit on the ground and till a garden and plant seeds and weed..   What I can't do is haul around equipment as I walk.   I don't mind going to these places on crutches either.  Just walking and getting there isn't the problem.  I can rest it and ice it once there.  I can even ICE my foot as I plant like I said.  I can water on crutches as well.    That is a little that I am going for with my GOFUNDME me page.

Every business started with a vision somewhere, and every business had help to get off the ground and start.  That is what my hopes for this GOFUNDME me is:  A hand-up.

I hope you all have a great day!

Thank you!
Marie

I added mulch to my Coriander.  This will help to keep it cool so that it doesn't bolt on me.  I learned a trick with it.  Shall soon see what happens.

Coreopsis is in bloom.  Actuallly this is my first view ever of this flower!

My lavender is so beautiful right now!

I just liked the way this image of my Lavender turned out.

Peek-a-boo Emily's flamingo from 2016 is saying "Hi!" from inside the Lavender bush.
