"Lady Margaret" has been writing poetry since she was 12 years old. The greatest influences on her poetry are the Bible and her mother, who was a British war bride from Scotland. Her mother would entertain "wee Maggie" and her sisters with stories of her Scottish homeland and of Ireland, the birthplace of "Lady Margaret's" grandmother. Because her Mexican-American father traveled extensively with the US Army, she and her sisters had minimal Hispanic influence as they were growing up. However, as she reached her mid-twenties, she became interested in learning more about her Hispanic background and began to write poetry that was reflective of this heritage and of her search for it.
"Lady Margaret" writes, publishes, and performs poetry. Her Spanish/English performances are well received by her audiences. She will sometimes draw on the memory of her mother's voice and accent to emphasize a key word or phrase in her storytelling. She has published numerous articles on various topics, including Hispanic genealogy; poems; and a chapbook. She has been writing material and gathering illustrations for a second book.
"Lady Margaret's" multi-cultural background enables her to function in several culturally diverse environs. Her husband is also from a multi-cultural family. Together, they share relatives from 20 or more nationalities with their six daughters and numerous beloved grandchildren. Her work outside her home is fulfilling as is the short-term mission work she engages in through the church she and her family attend.
