In November 2000, I was in Zacatecas, Mexico, which is in the central highlands of the country. I went there to learn about my paternal roots. What did I find? Among many interesting things, I learned that, through my great-grandmother, I am likely descended from a carnal union between Hernan Cortes and one of Moctezuma's daughters, known in modern history as Isabel Moctezuma. I consider being descended from these historical figures to be a dubious honor because Cortes was an adventurer and, despite the titles and riches that he gained, he was neither a gentleman nor a noble one.
Moctezuma was the deified ruler of a vast empire. Nonetheless, he lost his empire and his life because he believed that Cortes was his god, Quetzalcoatl, returned in the flesh. He was polite and listened to what his returning "god" had to say about Christianity; however, he chose to not believe in nor accept Jesus Christ. This may have been due to the fact that he probably didn't understand the doctrine that Spanish priests were prosyletizing to him.
But that was THEM, my ancestors, and I am who I am today because I took the step of accepting Jesus Christ as my personal Saviour. Having done so, I am assured of being seated at the right hand of the Father when He calls me home.
And where are Cortes and Emperor Moctezuma spending eternity? I'm not certain but I have my suspicions. God is the only One Who knows for sure. Dear reader, if you don't already know Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour, won't you take that step now? All you have to do is confess to the Lord that you are a sinner and that you repent of your sins and MEAN it. (Once again, God is the only One Who will know for sure if you are sincere.) Then you have to say out loud to the Lord that you believe that Jesus died on the cross for you and you accept Him as your personal Saviour.
