In Florence, we stayed at the Hotel J and J. We had the pleasure of dining at Enoteca Pinchorri, arguably the best restaurant in Italy. But our favorite meal was Bistecca alla Fiorentina, a succulant porterhouse steak (1kg or 2.2lbs) grilled to perfection, seasoned with nothing more than salt, pepper and extra virgin olive oil and served with lemon. The most romantic spot was lying on a bench in the Boboli Gardens (behind Palazzo Pitti) watching cloud formations and listening to the water trickle from a nearby fountain.
