Thanks to those people who made time to write a haiku (or two) for our writing contest. The winning haiku was written by Shula Smith, Age 11 who lives in Pennsylvania, USA. (Shula, your prize will arrive soon!) Shula sent in two original haiku, and the first one is the one we gave the prize to. Can you guess what the haiku are about?
What is peace?
Wondering the meaning of peace I have written my idea of being in peace here. What is peace to meS is to have no war, to have water and electricity working and to have a family with love. This is what I think of peace. After writing this down, I realized that my own family is living in peace, and I hope that other families and people all over the world can also live with this feeling.
Yesterday my sister finished kindergarten and I attended the graduation ceremony. Each child presented hjs or her own dream for the future. Listening to their dreams, I wondered if children in countries where there is war also have such dreams for the future, and if when will those dreams come true.
-Daisy Takeuchi, Age 10; Nara, Japan
