| Who we are..... Twelve years ago a small group of Latinas sharing common interests a desire to improve the quality of life in northern New Mexico, and a recognition of the significance of advocating equal rights and opportunities for Latinas in this area founded MANA del Norte in 1989. To ensure that advocacy was the primary task for their small group, these individuals worked diligently to establish an organization that would be devoted to issues facing Latinas in northern New Mexico. Shortly after, this grassroots organization became a chapter of MANA, a National Latina Organization®, founded in Washington, D.C. in 1974. MANA del Norte is a non-profit 501c3 organization serving as a voice and resource for Latinas in the tri-county area of Los Alamos, Rio Arriba, and Santa Fe. MANA del Norte supports programs and legislative initiatives that foster a better quality of life for all. Our members, women and men, are as culturally diverse as they are in their educational and professional backgrounds. Our members, including the Board, volunteers their free time to improve the social, educational, economic and political conditions of Latinas. |
