A unique and unforgettable experience where tourists and visitors can really feel and touch what Malta; this land of sun and honey can offer.

Whether being a beekeeper, a student, or a common tourist, it is always very interesting to see and experience how the Maltese people keep their bees and produce honey. Apitourism is by far most interesting, since the visitor will have the opportunity to enter in an apiary and personally experiencing the buzzing noise of bees, watching the beekeeper opening a beehive infront of him and pointing out interesting things to see; like the young (larvae), the queen, and honey production in the beehive. The Apiculture Experience is offering the following interesting programme that will take place at our Apiary in St. Paul’s Bay.

_ Introductory talk on Honey and Apiculture in Malta. (including Agriculture in Malta)

_ Tasting of a warm traditional honey drink.

_ Wearing protective beekeeping clothing. (very exiting and humorous)

_ Opening of a hive and observing a honeybee colony.

_ Maltese Honey tasting.

_ Mead tasting. (honey wine tasting – for adults only)

_ Tasting of traditional honey cakes or biscuits.       (according to season availability)

_ Notes on Apiculture and Honey of Malta.

This whole package will cost Lm2 per person. A 10% discount can be offered if the number of heads participating is over thirty (30), and a 15% discount can be offered if the number of heads participating is around fifty (50).

Should one wishes to include a jar of Pure Maltese Honey with this package, then the whole package including honey will rise to Lm3.50 per person. (a discount applies as above).

We can offer this experience to individual tourists or a small group. In this case the whole package will not exceed Lm5  per person.

We will have Pure Maltese Honey for sale.

The whole experience will take about two hours, but it depends according to your availability of time. Duration of experience will be discussed with the tour operator.

Should the group have ample time this experience may be extended with a visit to the Punic apiaries found in the north of the Island, exactly at Xemxija Bay. These apiaries pertain to the era of the Carthaginians and Phoenicians. In those days colonies were kept indoors, primarily for security and fear from theft, and also to prevent the colonies from the hot summer temperatures. One can go inside the apiary, observe the openings from where every colony has its access to outside. One cannot miss the earthenware hives or jars used at those times, which are illegal to use today.

Experience the nature… sweetness… spirit… and warmth of our country.

A lifetime experience…

…Bee Aware
