"There are no bad
cooks in Mallard Bay" is a frequently expressed opinion. One of
the opportunities cooks have to strut their stuff is in the “Dine-In Group”
formed to give neighbors a chance to meet and eat in different homes on a
regular basis (as well as check out guest bathrooms for cleanliness and
taste in wallpaper design). Hostesses sign up for a particular month,
along with co-hostesses, and recipes are shared at a planning meeting to
select a menu. The hostess/host prepares the entrée’. Side
dishes and dessert are brought by the guests. The group meets in
October for a cocktail party with all participants bringing an hors de
oeuvre to share. Dine-In events are scheduled on weekends so that
part-time residents may join. Even if you don't consider yourself a
good cook, this group has plenty of friendly, expert assistance on which to
draw.
For the 2009-2010 season, the
Mallard Bay Dine In Group will get off to its usual rousing start with the
annual cocktail and hors d'oeuvres party at the clubhouse on FRIDAY, October
2, 2009 from 6 to 10 pm. Please note just this one event will be on Friday,
the rest are all on Saturday. This is when we welcome new prospective members
and get ourselves organized for the coming year. Everyone is invited, and even
if you aren't interested in joining Dine In it is a good party. Please bring a
favorite nibble and your drink of choice.
November 14 will be a regular
gathering of six to eight people at different houses, all preparing and
enjoying the same menu, planned by the group, with recipes provided for each
course. This month we will also invite anyone who maybe wants to "put a
toe in" without committing to joining us for the full year. Put on your
thinking caps and come up with some ideas.
December 12 will be the Dirty
Santa potluck and party at the clubhouse.
January 9 will be a regular
gathering at different houses.
February 13 will be a regular
gathering.
March 13 will be the ever
popular Men's Brunch at the clubhouse. This is always a gourmet and gourmand
experience.
April 10 is another regular
gathering.
May 8 will finish the season
with a special ethnic dinner at the clubhouse.
Leslie Hatch and Julaine Cleland
will be organizing again this year and hope to have another successful gourmet
year. For further information contact Leslie at 580-5121 or Julaine at 520-5563.
