First lamb of the year 2001 at Locksley Fields arrived on April 4th. It is an adorable ewe out of Smoke Ham Sashii and Fletcher Sundance. She is a pretty little moorit with white spots on her face and head (maybe a blettet? in shetland terms). Looks like she will have a very crimpy fleece. This is the sweetest lamb. See a photo of her face Here.

Next shetland to lamb, on the 9th was Fletcher McCleady Laine, also bred to Sundance.. It is a "moorit" ram lamb.. Not sure yet if he will fade or remain moorit. He had horn growth already at birth! McCleady is protective of him even though he outweighed all the other lambs by at least a pound at birth, and has continued to grow fast. I suppose all along I was expecting to have another white "pheo" lamb like McCleady so it was interesting seeing this guy come out, especially with those little horns.
Next, and the surprise of surprises (so far!) were Fletcher Limmerick's TWIN ewes! I had been watching Limmerick from outside the fence at 2 AM (couldn't see much with dim flashlit) and when she was almost finished lambing, I ran in to get iodine.. Went out into the pasture, and was amazed to find the little spotted girl. I was happily helping dry her off when out popped the other little girl! I'm thrilled to have my first twins :-) and Limmerick is wonderful with both of them. Her daughter from 2 years ago, McCleady, was a bit confused though, and looked back and forth at them as if to say "How'd you get TWO??" :-)
The father is also Fletcher Sundance.

These twin moorits born on the 19th, were another great surprise.. They are Fletcher Bethany's ewe and ram lamb (Sundance is the father again of course!).
The final lamb, born May 3, is a black "blettet"? Ram out of Shandrew Rouen.. Wow what neat looking markings! His color looks very black and he also has white on the back of his head which doesn't show in the photo.

This photo was taken only a couple minutes after he was born.
All done lambing!
