Krishna is the ninth incarnation of Vishnu. He was born as the eigth child of Vasudeva and Devaki in Mathura. He was, however, brought up incognito in Gokulam by Nandagopa, the Chief of cowherds and his wife Yasodha. Vishnu took this avatar to protect humani ty from the evil effects of the tyrannical rule of Kamsa, King of Mathura and uncle of Krishna. As a growing child. krishna had his quota of childish pranks, which many a time caused annoyance to his parents. On one occasion, one of the neighbors complained to Yasodha, that Krishna was eating dirt. Yashodha chided the child and asked him to open his mouth. When Krishna opened his mouth, Yasodha did not see any speck of dirt in the mouth; instead she saw the whole universe. Such superhuman sports of Krishna in his boyhood were the marks of psychic powers enunciated in yoga philosophy. In spite of his pranks, Krishna was the pride of the community. All the cowboys and cowgirls were attracted to him. He hypnotized them with the rnelodious music flowing from the flute he played. As it was divine music, even the grownups were in a spell, when he played the flute Radha, one of the cowgirls was so much attracted to Krishna and his music, that she got manried to him.
