"BENOIT/REGAL REMATCH TO HEADLINE PILLMAN 2001
Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat Named Special Guest Referee

CINCINNATI ---The Heartland Wrestling Associations Director of Operations, Les Thatcher, today announced that the main event for the 2001 Brian Pillman Memorial Show would be a rematch between World Wrestling Federation superstars Chris Benoit and William Regal.

Thatcher said, This was a tremendous match-up last year which rocked the wrestling world, and with Ricky Steamboat serving as referee it can only get better.

William Regals career was rejuvenated after his match with Benoit at last years Pillman show. After rejoining the WWF late last year, Regal has been a two-time European Champion and now serves as the federations commissioner. During his tenure in World Championship Wrestling, Regal defeated Ricky Steamboat for the WCW Television Title, a belt which Regal would win on three more occasions.

Chris Benoit, known worldwide as "The Canadian Crippler", has won numerous titles in Canada, Mexico, Japan and the United States. In January 2000, Benoit left WCW for the WWF and found immediate success within the federation. Benoit has won the WWFs Intercontinental Title three times, defeating Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho and Billy Gunn.

Ricky The Dragon Steamboat is regarded as one of the top performers in professional wrestling history. Throughout his career, Steamboat has captured a number of prestigious championships including the WWF Intercontinental Title and the National Wrestling Alliance World Heavyweight Title. In addition to his success in the singles ranks, Steamboat has won a number of World Tag-Team titles, including 4-times with Jay Youngblood in the NWA.

The 2001 Brian Pillman Memorial Show will be held at Oak Hills High School in Cincinnati, OH on Thursday, August 9th. The Mark Curtis Wrestling Camp will return for its second year and takes place at the HWA headquarters on Wednesday, August 8th. Ticket information for both shows will be available in the upcoming weeks.

Last night at a house show in Tallahassee, Florida, Crash Holly defeated Jerry Lynn and Dean Malenko to retain the WWF Light Heavyweight Championship. According to a fan in attendance, "Malenko dropkicked Lynn into a rollup from Crash who got the pin. After the match Malenko attacked Crash with the light heavyweight title." (Credit: Lords of Pain)

Also, the following is courtesy of FigureZone: "Recently at WWF Axxess, in Houston, Texas. Jakks Pacific put a prototype of the Dean Malenko figure on display. This figure, although no release date or series has been set for it yet, is still in some controversy for ROTR 3 as he is surrounded by all ROTR 3 figures. Notice that no Eddy Guerrero figure or Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley figure in the picture. Still, with the release date of this series not yet upon us, we have not seen a prototype of the Stephanie figure (other than the figure from TTL Series 7). Could Dean Malenko be a mystery entrant into this series? Only time will tell, but if he is... you can expect to see this series be an even hotter seller than already predicted."

A picture of the prototype can be seen here.

Perhaps a Helms versus Malenko match will take place in the future. To visit the official site of Shane Helms, click here.
