Altered By Men If we stop for a moment and consider the facts of the Writers and the time span involved, (some 40 writers over a period of 2000 years.) One would surely expect to find such variance and contradiction as to make the entire collection totally illogical. Although sceptics and such would say this anyway. But the number of "so called alterations" or "inconsistencies" is of itself quite remarkable. And there remains within these 66 Books, from so many different writers, so much that has been shown to be accurate, truthful and consistant, that this of itself can only point to some Higher Authority guiding the writers. Just as the storm pushed the Apostle Paul to Malta. (Acts 27) Well it is either that or the most unlikely chance in the history of mankind. And so, while many of the original writtings may be lost to us, even the most casual glance at history shows the accuracy and truthfulness of that which remains. Then of course the true seeker needs only to compare that which we have today with the earliest known and available writtings to see the accuracy of the translations. So then, the conclusion we are drawn to is that the Bible has not been adulterated or altered to the extent that many still claim from following popular thought and ideas. But it remains the greatest living record from the One And Only God and Creator to His creation of Himself. The Gospels Do Not Even Agree. The Gospels are indeed very different, but one does not need to disbelieve there witness on the basis of this alone. For in light of that which we do know from the writtings of others in history they are accurate as well. Secondly, if the writers had written exactly the same narrative, I have no doubt that the argument would then be that they had decieved everyone by not relating truthfully what they had seen and heard from a personal perspective. So this argument does not hold water and carries no validity whatsoever. However, the fact that each Gospel is very similar is proof that the writers had not set out to deceive or misrepresent the facts. This similarity is proof that each wrote to their own people in their own manner of the events that they witnessed or at least heard of from those closest to the events, at their time of writting. The truth of this can be seen in any police report where there are two or more witnessess. Each persons statement will carry the view of the event, but each will differ in some respects because what one person sees and hears is not what the second will see and hear. The basic facts will be identical but the details will differ from witness to witness. This is something we know from the world around us and how we humans perceive things and events. And guess what it, is the same in the Gospel narratives. So again I say to you that this is no proof of failure, but certain proof of the validity of the writtings. |
