There is no right or wrong answer to the DDT debate. The United Nations did decide to not ban DDT. However, scientists worldwide have not come to a consensus over whether or not DDT is harmful to wildlife or the environment. There are hundreds of studies proving DDT to be harmful as well as hundreds proving such studies to be flawed in some way.
DDT is one of the cheapest ways to control malaria but not the only way. Malaria will be an ongoing problem in the future. Hopefully, millions of people will not die from malaria because of the UN's decision, but alternative ways to control malaria need to be discovered. DDT will continue to be controversial for years to come.
What do you prefer, dead children or dead mosquitoes?
