The Malaria Control Debate

One of the leading causes of sickness and death in developing countries is malaria.  There are 300 to 500 million clinical cases of malaria each year according to the World Health Organization.  Children are susceptible to malaria infections.  In Africa alone, 2,800 children die per day from malaria and in regions particularly vulnerable to malaria, 40% of toddlers may die of acute malaria.  Sub-Saharan Africa has the highest malaria infection rate compared to any other regions.  This web page is to inform the general public about malaria and to give a possible plan to control the malaria problem.  The following issues will be addressed:

  • Background on malaria- What exactly is it? How to treat it? etc.
  • Malaria treatment and vaccine possibilities.
  • Malaria control related to the UN Dirty Dozen ban debate
  • A possible malaria control program

Malaria causes Malaria  causes
1.5 to 2.7 million deaths a year.
