My Malaria Control Plan

  1. The first part of my plan is to inform people in a malaria prone area via pamphlets or people.  Pamphlets may be distributed to those people who can read whereas in other areas, educators can speak to people either in groups or on an individual basis.  People should be informed about malaria, what it is, how it is spread, what the treatments are, etc.

  1. The second part of my plan is to spray household walls with DDT when there are not other economically viable alternatives.  This method should be limited because the excessive use of DDT is debatable on its impact on the environment.  Also, DDT continues to be controversial and thus should not be overused.

  1. If there is some funding available either in the form of aid or some other source, people should be supplied with bed nets that have been dipped into pyrethoids (insecticide).  Bed nets offer personal protection against insects and when dipped in an insecticide, the insects are deterred from the sleeping quarters.  Most of the disease infected mosquitoes bite people at night, thus it is imperative to have protection for people when they are sleeping.  This method should also only be used if re-treatment is available in the future such as the current existing program in China.

""Economic studies, soon to be submitted for publication, indicate that the cost-effectiveness could make these nets equal childhood immunization and other very efficient interventions to save children." Dr. David Evans, WHO
