Asteroid Belt

To Asteroids

This is a band of Asteroids orbiting the Sun between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter, so effectively seperating the Terrestrial planets from the Jovian worlds and Pluto. These asteroids typically range from the size of houses to small stones, the largest is a few kilometres across and the smallest a tiny fraction of a grain of sand.

This belt causes a number of problems for long range spacecraft and probes atempting to reach the outer planets. In terms of future uses these could be utelised for the valuable minerals these contain or to create space stations in asteroids that have been hollowed out.
